HomeMy WebLinkAboutSection VIII - Final ResultsCity of Arcadia Final Results FINAL RESULTS This survey was comprehensive in scope. The intent was to discover the breadth of historic and architectural resources in the City of Arcadia. The materials in this report fulfill that purpose. By necessity, these materials do not aspire to the depths of knowledge required for National Register of Historic Places nominations. Such a report would require detailed information about all former property owners, original constructions, repairs and additions as well as a thorough analysis of the current structure. While this is recommended as the next step for some of the properties listed here, it requires a level of focussed communication with property owners that was not feasible for the present study. Some of the most historically significant buildings in Arcadia were not included in this study only because they are already registered as historic places in city, state or national listings. Findings: The dominant architectural styles in Arcadia are Craftsman and Ranch. Other styles, such as Spanish Eclectic, Contemporary, Neo -Colonial and Tudor take precedence in certain neighborhoods and districts. Of the districts we identified, four show distinctive characters, represented in the age and style of their buildings. The Highland Oaks District is dominated by Ranch and Contemporary style homes. The Historic Downtown is dominated by Craftsman Style homes built in the 1920s. There are also fine examples of Spanish Eclectic and Tudor. Many of the businesses share Art Deco or Art Moderne styles. Homes in the Orange Grove District share Colonial Revival, Neo -Colonial and Ranch styles. The Contemporary style, Neo -Tudor and Tudor are also well represented. The Southern District shows the greatest variety of architectural style. Spanish Eclectic homes dominate this district. They share space equally with Craftsman, Ranch and Tudor style residences. There are unique examples of several other styles such as Folk Victorian, Victorian Shingle, Prairie and French Eclectic. The other districts do not share any stylistic characteristics although each contains interesting examples of early twentieth century architecture. OW
