SUBJECT: DONATION OF $8,000 FROM THE ARCADIA POLICE FOUNDATION
FOR THE ARCADIA POLICE DEPARTMENT’S POLICE SERVICE DOG
(K-9) PROGRAM
Recommendation: Accept
SUMMARY
The Arcadia Police Foundation wishes to donate $8,000 to the Arcadia Police Department
for expenses related to the Police Service Dog (K-9) Program.
DISCUSSION
In 2015, the Arcadia Police Foundation was established for the purpose of supporting the
Arcadia Police Department by raising funds to support the programs, projects, and activities of the Department that are not funded through the City’s General Fund budget.
These projects and activities will assist the Arcadia Police Department in its mission to
improve public safety, decrease crime, and make Arcadia a safe place to live, work, and
visit.
The first project of the Foundation was to create and maintain an Arcadia Police Service
Dog (K-9) Unit. With the generous support of the Foundation, the Department currently
has two fully-trained police service dogs in commission (K-9 Zoli and K-9 Kota) and the
Foundation continues to cover the cost of their food, supplies and equipment, specialized training and certifications, boarding, and veterinary and dental expenses. All costs
pertaining to servicing the K-9 are funded by the Foundation, which is supported solely by
donations.
For FY 2018-19, the K-9 Program is projected to spend $24,000 for both recurring and one-time maintenance costs. The Foundation has pledged to provide three payments of
$8,000 throughout the fiscal year. This donation of $8,000 serves as the first payment.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
The proposed action does not constitute a project under the California Environmental
Quality Act (“CEQA”), and it can be seen with certainty that it will have no impact on the
environment. Thus, this matter is exempt under CEQA. FISCAL IMPACT
Acceptance of the Foundation’s gift of $8,000 will provide the necessary funds to help
maintain the Department’s K-9 Unit. RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council accept a donation of $8,000 from the Arcadia
Police Foundation for the Arcadia Police Department’s Police Service Dog (K-9) Program.
