FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT FUEL STATION CANOPY PROJECT AS COMPLETE Recommendation: Approve SUMMARY On January 16, 2018, the City Council approved a contract with Absolute Building Services, Inc. in the amount of $108,500 for the Police Department Fuel Station Canopy Project. The terms and conditions of this project have been complied with and the work has been performed to the satisfaction of the Project Manager for a total project cost of $108,500. It is recommended that the City Council accept all work performed by Absolute Building Services, Inc. for the Police Department Fuel Station Canopy Project as complete, and authorize the final payment to be made in accordance with the contract documents, subject to retention of $5,425. DISCUSSION The Public Works Services Department (“PWSD”) is responsible for the maintenance of all City owned facilities. Facility improvements are budgeted through the Capital Improvement Program (“CIP”), which addresses critical improvements, new construction, and replacement of antiquated facilities and equipment. The Police Department’s fueling station was open and unprotected from weather conditions, leaving both personnel and equipment vulnerable to rain, sun, and other potentially damaging seasonal elements. Additionally, the area was poorly lit with dim and inefficient High-Pressure Sodium light fixtures. On January 16, 2018, the City Council approved a contract with Absolute Building Services, Inc. for the Police Department Fuel Station Canopy Project. The work Accept Police Department Fuel Station Canopy Project - Construction August 7, 2018 Page 2 of 2 performed included construction of a cantilevered steel canopy with integrated energy efficient LED lighting. The canopy was painted with a semi-gloss finish. A fire extinguisher was mounted on the steel column and a precast concrete waste bin was added. Additionally, a surface mounted weather proof ground-fault circuit interrupter outlet was installed. See Attachment “A” for a photo of the completed canopy. The terms and conditions of this contract have been complied with and the work has been performed to the satisfaction of t he Project Manager. Absolute Building Services, Inc. has completed the work as defined in the project plans and specifications in an efficient and timely manner. FISCAL IMPACT Funds in the amount of $115,000 have been budgeted in the Fiscal Year 2017-18 CIP for this project. The total cost for the Police Department Fuel Station Canopy Project is 108,500. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council accept all work performed by Absolute Building Services, Inc. for the Police Department Fuel Station Canopy Project as complete, and authorize the final payment to be made in accordance with the contract documents, subject to the retention of $5,425.
