HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/3/2018 - Special Meeting Minutes ARCADIA CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2018 CALL TO ORDER — Mayor Tay called the Special Meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chamber, 240 W. Huntington Drive, Arcadia, California. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE — Gene Glasco, Elected City Clerk ROLL CALL OF CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS PRESENT: Amundson, Beck, Chandler, Verlato, and Tay ABSENT: None STUDY SESSION (OPEN TO THE PUBLIC) a. Report, discussion and direction regarding concerning revisions to the draft Historic Preservation Ordinance. Assistant City Manager/Development Services Director Kruckeberg provided a presentation of the draft Historic Preservation Ordinance. Mayor Tay opened the Public Comments. PUBLIC COMMENTS Gary Kovacic, an Arcadia resident and former Mayor, appeared and expressed his concerns regarding the revisions made to the draft Historic Preservation Ordinance, and stated that the ordinance is weak and very limited; and encouraged the City Council to adopt a meaningful ordinance that will preserve the City's history, character and soul. Mike Vercillo, an Arcadia resident, appeared and explained his ideas regarding the draft ordinance, and indicated that the City's local neighborhood and their heritage should be preserved; and recommended that the City Council include this in the draft ordinance. Dean Radle, an Arcadia resident, appeared and expressed his reasons why he is opposed to the draft Historic Preservation Ordinance. Jesse Chu, an Arcadia resident, appeared and expressed his concerns regarding the draft ordinance, and indicated that he is opposed to districts, that the City is one, and that history should preserved. Mayor Tay closed the Public Comments. It was the consensus of the City Council that revisions to the draft Historical Preservation Ordinance be made in red-line version and posted on the City's website to allow the public to make comments for the next 30 days. Assistant City Manager/Development Services Director Kruckeberg indicated that after the 30 days, staff will look at feedback from the community, and hopefully schedule the Ordinance for Planning Commission consideration in December or after the holidays.
