DATE: March 5, 2019
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: Darlene Bradley, Director Library & Museum Services
SUBJECT: DONATION FROM THE ARCADIA LION’S CLUB FOUNDATION IN THE
AMOUNT OF $1,000 FOR THE PURCHASE OF LARGE PRINT
MATERIALS
Recommendation: Accept
SUMMARY
The Arcadia Host Lion’s Club, through the Arcadia Lion’s Club Foundation, would like to
make a $1,000 donation to the Arcadia Public Library for the purchase of large print
materials. It is recommended that the City Council accept this donation.
DISCUSSION
The Arcadia Host Lion’s Club, through the Arcadia Lion’s Club Foundation, would like to
donate $1,000 to the Arcadia Public Library specifically to purchase materials that would
benefit those with eyesight impairments. The Arcadia Host Lion’s Club focuses on
programs for the blind and blind prevention through numerous eyesight services. They
also focus on youth and community programs that enhance the quality of life for
residents of Arcadia. This money would be used to purchase additional large print book
titles for adults and children. The large print collection is very popular amongst the
community and additional titles to this collection would be very much welcomed.
This donation helps the Arcadia Public Library and the City of Arcadia provide a higher
number of large print materials for the citizens of Arcadia beyond the current capacity of
the City’s General Fund. Without the ongoing support of groups such as the Arcadia
Host Lion’s Club and the Arcadia Lion’s Club Foundation, the array of materials
available to the community, including large print materials, would be much less than
what is enjoyed now.
All gifts over $1,000 are subject to approval by the City Council pursuant to City Charter
Section 809(d).
