SUBJECT: 967 Hampton Rd.: Arborist's analysis of deck modification near Tree#1
(Refer to Original Protected Tree Report dated October 2014)
The raised deck that was built around Tree#1 was done with proper respect to tree preservation;
however the grade at the west perimeter of the deck must be raised to comply with the city's
building code. I have analyzed this modification and conclude that it can be done without
causing any impact to the tree.
The Grade raising will occur in a narrow areas between a new garden wall and the edge of the
deck, and will be a grade change of approximately one foot. In my analysis,I looked at photos
of the tree and surrounding grade that I took for the preparation of my 2014 Tree Report,prior to
the redevelopment. It appears that the grade raising will actually be a return to more of a similar
grade in this area of the property as it was. Furthermore,the work will be done at a tolerable
disttance from the trunk, exceeding a distance eqal to five times the trunk's diameter.

ABOVE: The shrubs will be removed and the grade between the garden wall and the deck will
be raised to comply with the building code. The shrubs will likely then be replaced. BELOW:
Tree#1 will not be affected, as the grade raising is at a tolerable distance from the trunk. The
revised grade is actually more similar to the topography prior to the redevelopment.
