HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 11c - Donation of $1,700 for Classical Kaleidoscope Concerts DATE: April 2, 2019 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Darlene Bradley, Director of Library and Museum Services By: Pat Smith, Library Services Manager SUBJECT: DONATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,700 FROM THE FRIENDS OF THE ARCADIA PUBLIC LIBRARY FOR THE CLASSICAL KALEIDOSCOPE CONCERTS ON MARCH 6 AND APRIL 23, 2019 Recommendation: Accept SUMMARY The Friends of the Arcadia Public Library have offered a gift of $1,700 to fund two Classical Kaleidoscope Concerts, one on March 6, 2019 , and the other on April 23, 2019. It is recommended that the City Council accept the gift. DISCUSSION The Friends of the Arcadia Public Library (the “Friends”), as part of their ongoing mission to support the Library’s goals and objectives, are donating $1,700 to the Library to fund two classical music concerts during spring 2019. The Board and the members of the Friends work six days a week throughout the year to raise these funds through sales of used books and other items by the Friends Bookstore, located inside the Arcadia Public Library. The funds donated by the Friends help the Library provide quality programs for the citizens of Arcadia beyond the current capacity of the City’s General Fund. The Classical Kaleidoscope Concerts feature professional musicians and are well-attended. All gifts to the Library over $1,000 are subject to approval by the City Council pursuant to City Charter Section 809(d). Donation of $1,700 by the Friends of the Arcadia Public Library April 2, 2019 Page 2 of 2 ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS The proposed action does not constitute a project under the California Envir onmental Quality Act (“CEQA”), and it can be seen with certainty that it will have no impact on the environment. Thus, this matter is exempt under CEQA. FISCAL IMPACT The Library’s programming for the residents of Arcadia is enhanced by this gift of $1,700 and the concerts it will fund. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council accept a donation in the amount of $1,700 from the Friends of the Arcadia Public Library for the Classical Kaleidoscope Concerts on March 6 and April 23, 2019.
