SUMMARY
The Friends of the Arcadia Public Library have offered a gift of $1,700 to fund two
Classical Kaleidoscope Concerts, one on March 6, 2019 , and the other on April 23,
2019. It is recommended that the City Council accept the gift.
DISCUSSION
The Friends of the Arcadia Public Library (the “Friends”), as part of their ongoing
mission to support the Library’s goals and objectives, are donating $1,700 to the Library
to fund two classical music concerts during spring 2019. The Board and the members
of the Friends work six days a week throughout the year to raise these funds through
sales of used books and other items by the Friends Bookstore, located inside the
Arcadia Public Library.
The funds donated by the Friends help the Library provide quality programs for the
citizens of Arcadia beyond the current capacity of the City’s General Fund. The
Classical Kaleidoscope Concerts feature professional musicians and are well-attended.
All gifts to the Library over $1,000 are subject to approval by the City Council pursuant
to City Charter Section 809(d).
