Valley Blvd., Suite 622 Alhambra, CA 91803 SUBJECT: Single-Family Design Review No. SFADR 17-31 PROJECT ADDRESS: 171 Laurel Avenue Dear Mr. Hu: The public comment period for the Notice of Pending Decision ended on April 16, 2019. During the public comment period, staff received one letter of opposition to the new second floor addition to the existing single-story house. The neighbor stated that the new second floor was not compatible with the surrounding single-story homes. After careful consideration, staff determined that the new 694 square foot second floor is not consistent with the City’s Single-Family Design Guidelines. The new second floor was not integrated well to existing single-story home. The design appears off-balanced, consists of difference roof forms and slopes that do not produce a cohesive design, and lacks a specific architectural style. The design as proposed is not compatible in terms of character and scale with the other homes in the neighborhood. Therefore, the Development Services Department has denied the single-family design review project. There is a ten (10) day appeal period for this application. To file an appeal, a completed Appeal Application form must be submitted to the Development Service Department along with a $600.00 appeal fee by 5:30 p.m. on May 16, 2019.
