May 10, 2019 Torres Demolition Contractor Mr. Javier Torres 5134 Landis Avenue Baldwin Park, California 91706 Subject: Soils Compaction Report; Swimming Pool Backfill, 2716 Winthrop Street, Arcadia, California, EGL Project No.: 19-AA-034C. Ladies and Gentlemen: . This report presents results of our field density tests performed on the swimming pool backfill at the subject site. Swimming pool was backfilled for a future addition to the existing residence. Site -. conditions, field and laboratory test results, and post-grading recommendations are presented as follows: p . SITE CONDITION 4 Subject site is located on the east side of Winthrop Street at a relatively short distance south of Las Tunas Drive in the City of Arcadia, California. Topographically, the subject site is relatively .flat. Existing residence and associated structures will remain. The swimming pool shell was completely removed and hauled off site prior to backfilling. The swimming pool was a maximum depth of 8 feet below the existing grade after the pool shell was removed and hauled off site. . Prior to all backfill, the exposed soil within the pool were inspected and approved by the city inspector and EGL to ensure clearance of non-acceptable debris. Import soils were used as fill materials. Import soils consisted of dark brown base material mixed with silty sand (GM; Soil Type A) and pale olive brown silty sand (SM, Soil Type B). LABORATORY TESTING Laboratory maximum dry density and optimum moisture content for the import soils were determined according to laboratory standard ASTM D-1557-12. Following table presents the test results of representative soil samples collected from the subject site: 11819 Goldring Road, Suite A,Arcadia, California 91006 Phone: (626)263-3588; Fax: (626)263-3599 Torres Demolition Contractor Page 2 of 3 EGL Project Number. 19-AA-034C May 10, 2019 TABLEI LABORATORY TEST RESULTS Soil Type Maximum Dry Optimum Moisture Density (pcf) Content (%) A- Import base material with silty sand (GM) 130.0 9.0 B - Import light olive brown silty sand (SM) 119.0 13.0 FIELD DENSITY TEST 1. Field density tests were performed using the Nuclear Gauge Method (ASTM D-2922-01 and D-3017-01) and/or Sand Cone Method (ASTM D-1556-04). Field density test results are presented below in Table II. Field density tests were performed at random locations to check compaction effort provided by the contractor. Test results exceeded minimum required relative compaction of 90 percent. Test results herein are considered representative of the compacted area. 3. Import soils consisted of brown base material with silty sand (GM; Soil Type A) and pale olive brown silty sand (SM, Soil Type B). Soil samples were verified to match with the laboratory tested samples. 4. Compacted fill is considered adequate for its intended use. POST-GRADING RECOMMENDATIONS • 1. All utility backfill should be brought to near optimum moisture content and then compacted to obtain a minimum relative compaction of 90 percent of the laboratory standard. 2. All trench excavations should conform to CAL-OSHA and local safety codes. 11819 Goldring Road, Suite A,Arcadia, Califomia 91006 Phone: (626)263-3588; Fax: (626)263-3599 I _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ — _ - - _ - i I — SwimmingX_3 I Pool x—s o o _ .c` EXISTING 1-STORY EXISTING 8Xx6 HOUSE TO REMAIN GARAGE X-4 I TO REMAIN J NORTH '--' • J Environmental LEGEND Geotechnology Laboratory Limits Under Purview of This Report Site Plan X—c1 Approximate Location of Field Density Test SCALE: 1'= 30' DRAWN BYi RJ DATE! 5/9/19 REVISED Project Address' 27Winthrop Street 3 Maximum Fill Depth = 3,0Ar feet cad16ia, California • JOB NO.
