HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 12b - Declaring Results of the June 4, 2019, Special Municipal Election DATE: July 16, 2019 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Dominic Lazzaretto, City Manager By: Lisa Mussenden, Chief Deputy City Clerk/Records Manager SUBJECT: RESOLUTION NO. 7267 RECITING THE FACT OF THE SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD ON JUNE 4, 2019, AND DECLARING THE RESULTS AND SUCH OTHER MATTERS AS PROVIDED BY LAW Recommendation: Adopt SUMMARY On June 21, 2019, the results of the June 4, 2019, of the All Mail Ballot Special Municipal Election were certified by the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk. The results of the election are reflected in the attached Resolution No. 7267. Based on the certification, Measure A passed with 63.65% of the total 7,559 votes voting in favor of the proposal. A simple majority was required for passing. Measure A will become effective on January 1, 2020. Resolution No. 7267 declaring the results of the June 4, 2019, All Mail Ballot Special Municipal Election is attached for City Council adoption. The certification, which is attached as Exhibit “A” to the Resolution, provides the whole number of votes cast in the City, the total voter turnout, and the number of votes cast for and against Measure “A”. ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS The proposed action does not constitute a project under t he California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”), and it can be seen with certainty that it will have no impact on the environment. Thus, this matter is exempt under CEQA. FISCAL IMPACT With the approval of Measure A by the voters, an additional 0.75% in sales taxes will be collected on taxable transactions in the community. This will generate approximately $8.6 million in additional revenue to the City each year.
