ROLL CALL — Commissioners Dale Carter, Virginia Blitz, Donna Lee, Director Darlene Bradle Curator Dana Hicks, and Museum Education Coordinator Rebecca Wilcox i "T 1 0 Approval of an excused absence for Commissioners Reza and Wu was moved by Commissioner Lee, seconded by Commissioner Blitz, and carried on a voice vote. AYES: Commissioners Carter, Lee and Blitz. NOES: None. PUBLIC COMMENTS: Billie Tone complimented the temporary exhibit, "Home on the Range: Rancho Owners of Santa Anita." REPORTS FROM MUSEUM COMMISSION MEMBERS / LIAISONS Commissioner Blitz shared a recent find at her home: a collection of menus from various Arcadia restaurants. She donated these to the Museum's archive collection. As liaison to the Friends of the Arcadia Museum (FAM), Commissioner Blitz reported that FAM will be finalizing letters for their membership campaign at their upcoming meeting. Commissioner Carter also complimented the "Home on the Range: Rancho Owners of Santa Anita" exhibit and enjoyed the recent Cultural Demonstration featuring the Santa Anita Woodcarvers. Commissioner Lee lauded Curator Hicks and Education Coordinator Wilcox for all their work so far this year. DIRECTOR REPORTS A. Reports from the Director: Director Bradley formally introduced Library Services Manager, Pat Smith, to the Commissioners. Director Bradley shared that she and Curator Hicks are focusing on preparing the budget for the 2018-2019 fiscal year. She also encouraged Commissioners to attend the City Council's budget study session to learn more about the budget process. Library Services Manager Smith shared that the library is hosting a lecture series with the Arcadia Historical Society and a lecture by author, historian, and journalist, Lisa Schnebly Heidinger. B. Reports from the Curator: Curator Hicks noted that the temporary exhibit, "Home on the Range: Rancho Owners of Santa Anita" will be closing March 31, 2018. The next exhibit, "Here and There: Artwork of Sid Bingham," will open on April 14, 2018. Sid Bingham has worked with companies ranging from The Wait Disney Corporation to the LA Dodgers, and has taught at the Art Center College of Design for 20 years. Curator Hicks is working diligently in the collections area in order to maximize the space and update the organization of the collections. The Photo Identification Team will be meeting April 18, 2018 with new photos that have been donated and purchased for the collection. April 28, 2018 will be the first Spring Soiree of the year, featuring the Side Walk Astronomers, acoustic guitarist Mike Gallegos, and henna artist Jonathan Baker. The Museum's History Symposium "Ross Field Arcadia WWI Balloon School — 100 Years" will be hosted on May 5, 2018, with a reception hosted by FAM. Curator Hicks shared that the Museum also recently purchased a wand scanner that will help to digitize the Museum's oversized photographs, maps, scrapbooks, and other large documents. Lastly, Curator Hicks shared that the Museum will host a summer intern from Colorado State University who is working toward her Master's in Public History. Education Coordinator Wilcox shared that she will be visiting all the third grade students at Longley Way Elementary school March 14-16, 2018 to facilitate the "Arcadia: Then and Now" school program. The next Hands -On Saturdays for Families will be March 247 2018 and will feature INCA: The Peruvian Ensemble, who will perform traditional Peruvian music and dance. Coordinator Wilcox also shared that this year's Up Close and Messy family program will be held April 21, 2018. Attendees will learn about the history felt making and will learn how to wet felt and needle felt. C. Discussion on American Association for State and Local History StEPs program, section 2: Audience: Curator Hicks shared that Museum staff have developed a visitor survey that will be sent to the Museum's email mailing list. Curator Hicks will also be posting maps in the Museum lobby to gather visitor geographic, information. Museum staff is also currently working to gather visitor attendance data and will present the findings to the Commission at the May 2, 2018 meeting. July 4, 2018 Commission Meeting: Commissioners decided to move the July 4 meeting t5 the following week, July 11 7 2018. 1 Approval of moving the July 4, 2018 Commission Meeting to July 11, 2018 was moved by Commissioner Blitz, seconded by Commissioner Lee, and carried on a voice vote. AYES: Commissioners Carter, Lee, and Blitz NOES: None ABSENT: Commissioners Reza and Wu E. 2018 Off -Site Museum Tour: Commissioners discussed various museums to visit and decided that Curator Hicks will contact the Grammy Museum and the Skirball Cultural Center to inquire about a tour. Date of tour to be determined. CONSENT CALENDAR a. Approve the Regular Meeting Minutes of January 3, 2018 Recommended action: Approve Approval of Consent Calendar Item "a" was moved by Commissioner Lee, seconded by Commissioner Blitz, and carried on a voice vote.
