ROLL CALL: Commissioners Carlos Reza, Jr., Jeanne Roy, Virginia Blitz, Dale Carter; Director
of Library and Museum Services Darlene Bradley; Curator Stevy Hernandez; Library Services
Manager Pat Smith.
REPORTS FROM MUSEUM COMMISSIONERS / LIAISONS — Commissioner Blitz, as Liaison
to the Friends of the Museum, distributed an advance invitation for the upcoming fundraiser,
scheduled for Saturday, September 14, 2019, from 5 to 9 p.m. She reported that the DAR proposal
was accepted and a grant of $1,500 was approved, to be released around July 3. The matching
funds from the Friends for the touch -screen kiosk will be paid first. The 'Friends of the Museum
Board will meet on May 2, 2019.
DIRECTOR REPORTS
a. Measure A: Director Bradley gave a presentation on Measure A.
b. Director's Update: Director Bradley announced that Stevy Hernandez will be the new Curator
and informed the Commission that the third round of interviews for the Museum Education
Coordinator led to a conditional offer being made. Ms. Hernandez's new last name is now
Acevedo.
c. Budget: The Director updated the Commission on the City's budget and the Museum's
budget, of which staff was directed to prepare two budgets, one flat and one with 5% cuts.
The first City Council Study Session is scheduled for May 7. She then discussed the effects
of the two different budget scenarios.
d. Curator's Report: The Kruti Shah exhibit, Debbie Turner display and loans, and the Arcadia
High School Band Booster donation were reviewed, as well as other donations.
Programming including the Scrapbooking Studio, Speakers' Bureau, Hands -On Saturday,
and Spring Soiree was discussed. There have been Girl Scout and class visits. Library staff
have helped staff the public desk: the Museum should be fully staffed by mid-May. The Friends
met in March and April to discuss the upcoming Fundraiser; their gift of $2,000 will be used to
support programming. Director Bradley attended the Arcadia Chinese Association meeting
and requested funding for a kiosk; she also attended Derby Day, which raises funds for the
Museum. Staff is meeting with teen volunteers and actively recruiting college -aged volunteers.
The Curator attended the PTA Council and shared a traveling kit, which focuses on local
Gabriel i no/Tongvas. Staff have been working on digitizing the accession list and will work on
the Deeds of Gift next. Two new archival bookcases and display cases have arrived.
e. Staff Update: This was covered under Item D above. In addition, City Councilman Roger
Chandler will be the Museum Commission Liaison. There are no new Commissioners this
next fiscal year. The Director expressed her appreciation for their service.
f. Programs: The Director reviewed past programs and previewed upcoming programs
including the Cinco de Mayo program (May 4) and Spring Soiree (May 25), as well as the
Photography Contest and Exhibition. She also discussed the new family-oriented programs
for the summer.

Collections: Ms. Acevedo has begun work on the Accession Book project, the collection, and
storage needs. Already identified, is the need for a comprehensive inventory of the collection
and accession records for items received between 2015 and current. The Deeds of Gift
records are incomplete and need to be updated. Digitizing some of the collections have also
been identified as potential ways to increase access to the collection and make more floor
space in the exhibit area. All of these tasks will help in the StEPS "collection" section.

Recommended action: Approve
The Motion to approve the minutes was moved by Commissioner Carter, seconded by
Commissioner Roy, and carried on a voice vote.

ABSENT: Commissioner Tone
The date for the next meeting was discussed given that it was scheduled for July 3, 2019, and it
might be difficult to reach the required quorum of three.
Commissioner Carter moved that the next meeting of the Museum Commission be changed to
Wednesday, June 26, 2019. Chair Reza Jr. seconded the motion, which was carried on a voice
vote.
