REPORTS FROM LIBRARY TRUSTEES/ LIAISONS Trustee Wang reported that she attended a performance of Beauty and the Beast at the Arcadia Performing Arts Center and noted that many of the shows are sold Out. Chair Renfrew stated that she had attended the Library's Sedona Schnebly program and added that the speaker had done a good job. Trustee Delphey reported that she had attended both the Schnebly program, which she found interesting, and the program about historic Arcadia watercolors, in which she said that presenter Carol Libby had done a terrific job. Trustee Delphey also reported that Chair Renfrew would be assisting the Friends of the Library with membership duties. She added that while book store sales were down, sales of books from the 25 cent truck were up. Trustee Delphey stated that the Friends would be holding a special book sale in April during National Library Week. Chair Renfrew asked if the book store could get a new sign to replace the very familiar "Got Books" sign. Manager Smith stated that she would look into it. 0 .ea .0, 9 . Ah Director's pate: Director Bradley reminded the Board that RSVPs for the Silver Circle Dinner are due by March 16, that the Mayor's Breakfast would be on April 6, and that the City Council Reorganization Session would be on April 24. She also reported that the library's proposed budget for 2018/2019 would include salary increases due to the rising minimum wage. Some increases are also being sought in the electronic resources budget to allow the PowerSpeak online language learning product to be replaced with the pricier, but better rated Mango online language product, while other products are being dropped. Trustee HasBrouck asked how patrons as well as the Board can find out about these electronic resources. Manager Smith stated that publicity would be prepared, and that Principal Librarian Danielle Guerrero could present these products to the Board at the next meeting. There was general agreement that this should be done. Monthly Report cert Statistics: February 2018: Director Bradley reported that the self -checkout statistics for the month were low because one of the self -check machines is not reporting statistics. Vendor technicians have been out several times to fix it. She also added that Children's program attendance numbers are up due to a very good turnout for the Chinese New Year's program. Monthly Report Narrative: February 2018: Chair Renfrew asked how attendance had been for the teen program which paired a screening of the movie Only the Brave with Arcadia firefighters demonstrating r r of firefighter •r • s equipment. •• e •• Bradley •:r a attendance • • Financial Report: January 2018: Director Bradley reported that spending was on track for this time of year. Building repair spending was higher this year because of the broken window due to vandalism. Trustee HasBrouck asked if the "Capital Outlay" section of the report was new, and Director Bradley stated that it was not new. National Library Week: Chair Renfrew asked what the Library would be doing for National Library Week this year, and Director Bradley stated that there would be a grand opening for the Library's new Community Learning and Technology Center, a volunteer appreciation brunch, as well as some other events still being planned. Tech Center Update: Manager Hiles reported that the large room is open to the public with 30 public computers, that the window decals are going up on the glass walls, and that the computers in the small room are being installed. He added that bids have been received for the audio-visual system for the small room. Passport Services Update: Manager Smith reported that passport acceptance services had started on March 5 and were proceeding by appointment only. Staff Update: Director Bradley reported that the part-time Librarian position in Adult Services had opened, and the full-time Library Technician position in Circulation would open soon. Two Library Aides have been hired, and two more were in process. Field Trip: Director Bradley suggested the Board consider visiting the newly renovated Glendale Downtown Central Library or the new Michelle Obama Branch library in Long Beach for this year's Board field trip. In the discussion which followed, Trustees determined that May 18th would be a possible date for the trip, and that plans should be finalized at the April board meeting. Gilb Museum of Arcadia Heritage: Director Bradley reported that the Home on the Range exhibit was interesting. She also noted that an exhibit highlighting the art of Sid Bingham was opening in April. Calendars, Flyers, Historical Picture: Chair Renfrew noted that a lot of things were happening. CONSENT CALENDAR a. Approve the Regular Meeting Minutes of February 15, 2018 Recommended action: Approve Trustee Hasbrouck noted a sentence in the draft minutes was garbled and a correction was suggested. The motion to approve the minutes as corrected was moved by Trustee HasBrouck, seconded by Trustee Delphey, and carried on a voice vote.
