Friendship Club meets every Wednesday at 11am at the Assistance League building. The Club
has pie day, birthday celebrations, special theme days, guest speakers, and bingo. March
birthdays will be celebrated on March 14. The Club will have a special St. Patrick's Day
luncheon on March 28.
Commissioner Gleason reported there are 15 new members who have joined the Men's Club.
The Arcadia Men's Club invites anyone who likes to play card games, bridge, pinochle, canasta,
or other games to join them. Club members meet Wednesdays at 11am.
Chairperson Platt reported the Travelers Club is doing well. Travelers enjoyed a trip to the
Camelot Theatre in Palm Springs, including lunch at the Springs Hilton. Chairperson Platt
reported extended trips are doing well. The Club has 10 extended trips with approximately 35
participants per trip. Chairperson Platt reported there are currently 350 members.
Commissioner Dickey reported Medicare began in 1965 and for the first time since then,
Medicare has extended the opportunity for people to enroll for the first time or change their
plans. This extension will be available for those living in Northern and Southern California
Counties through March 30. This is a good opportunity for those who are not satisfied with their
plans, so long as they did not make any changes in 2017.
REPORT FROM CITY COUNCIL MEMBER LIAISON
Council Member Tom Beck reported a public hearing will be held on March 27 for the Olson
project on the corner of Las Tunas and Santa Anita. The project includes the request to
develop the site with a mixed use project with 77 multi-family residential units and commercial
space. Council Member Beck mentioned he would like to see more commercial buildings
included in the development to go along with the residential development. Council Member
Beck reported the City of Arcadia has a Slurry Seal Program in place to ensure the streets are
maintained. Slurry sealing is a process used to keep the streets in good condition and avoids
major reconstruction. The slurry seal 8-year grid map is available on the City's website.
