HomeMy WebLinkAboutAM Minutes: 11/06/19MUSEUM COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING MINUTES WEDNESDAY, November 6, 2019 CALL TO ORDER — Chair Carlos Reza, Jr. called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. in the Museum Education Center. ROLL CALL: Chair Carlos Reza, Jr.; Commissioners Jeanne Roy, Dale Carter, Billie Tone; Director of Library & Museum Services Darlene Bradley; Curator Stevy Acevedo; Museum Education Coordinator Brittani Alberto ABSENT: Virginia Blitz Commissioner Tone moved to approve an excused absence for Commissioner Blitz which was seconded by Commissioner Carter and carried on a voice vote. AYES: Commissioners Jeanne Roy, Dale Carter, Billie Tone, and Chair Carlos Reza, Jr. NOES: None ABSENT: Commissioner Blitz REPORTS FROM MUSEUM COMMISSION MEMBERS / LIAISONS Commissioner Tone reported that her chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will be attending a tour of the Dinsmoor House Museum in Rosemead, California and extended an open invitation to all officers and commission members to attend on November 9 at 12:30 pm. DIRECTOR REPORTS A. Report from the Director of Libraries and Museums: Director Bradley reported this past week on October 30 the Gilb Museum hosted the Leadership Academy. The Friends of the Arcadia Museum (FAM) fundraiser raised about $10,276.84. Museum and Library staff also attended the Taste of Arcadia event at the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden. NBC also filmed an episode of Good Girls in the front of the Gilb Museum on October 11, for which the studio presented the Museum with $5,000 which will be used to purchase archival supplies for the Museum. On October 18 the Museum hosted a pie day for city employees, and on October 19, hosted a pie day for the general public. Both were well attended. B. Report from the Curator: Curator Acevedo reported that the Museum hosted the opening reception for the Arcadia Flourishing Painters exhibit, which brought 60 people to the event. The Museum has also been visited frequently by special needs groups. Dino Day brought 120 visitors to the museum. C. Flyers/Announcements: Curator Stevy Acevedo presented flyers for Swazzle and Arcadia's Flourishing Painters. CONSENT CALENDAR a. Approve the Regular Meeting Minutes of September 4, 2019 Recommended action: Approve Commissioner Tone moved to approve Consent Calendar Item a" which was seconded by Commissioner Carter, and carried on a voice vote. AYES: Commissioners Jeanne Roy, Dale Carter, Billie Tone, and Chair Carlos Reza, Jr. NOES: one ABSENT: Commissioner Blitz Director Darlene Bradley pointed out that the next Museum Commission Meeting would take place on January 1, 2020. Being that this would be on New Year's Day Darlene suggested that the meeting be moved to January 8, 2020. b. Approve the Cancellation of the Museum Commission Meeting January 1, 2020 Recommended action: Approve c. Approve the Special Meeting January 8, 2020 Recommended action: Approve Commissioner Carter moved to cancel the Museum Commission Meeting on January 1, 2020 and change the next meeting's date to January 8, which was seconded by Commissioner Roy, and carried on a voice vote. AYES: Commissioners Jeanne Roy, Dale Carter, Billie Tone, and Chair Carlos Reza, Jr. NOES: None ABSENT: Commissioner Blitz ADJOURNMENT Chair Reza, Jr. adjourned this meeting at 5:55 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at the Museum Education Center at 382 W.
