REPORTS FROM LIBRARY TRUSTEES I LIAISONS:
Trustee Renfrew reported on recent Friends of the Library activities, including the successful Fall
Book Sale which netted $1,900, and the upcoming Classical Kaleidoscope and guitar concerts.
Trustee HasBrouck raised questions about the new website and requested a demonstration at
the next Board meeting. Councilmember Amundson discussed City issues, in particular
homelessness, current development projects, and upcoming events and elections.
REPORTS FROM THE DIRECTOR
Announcements/Statements/Reports
Director's Update: Director Bradley updated the Board regarding the installation of panic buttons
in the Library and Museum and the status of the incoming caseworker who will help connect
Library patrons to social services and other resources.
Monthly Statistical Report: October 2019 statistics showed a decline in gate count and check-
out numbers. The registration numbers were low, so a revised statistical report will be made
available at the next meeting. Under "Gifts and Grants," an unexpected donation was explained.
Monthly Report Narrative: Chair Delphey discussed her positive Leadership Academy
experience; Trustee HasBrouck asked to see the short video Adult Services showed during the
Library presentation. Director Bradley discussed the Great Shakeout in mid-October and reviewed
emergency procedures. Services to seniors were discussed as well, including possible outreach
efforts.
Financial Report: September 2019: Departments should have spent 25% of their budgets.
Some contract services are paid for upfront, so those categories may appear already spent.
Final Year -End Report (2018-2019): Director Bradley noted that while the spending goal should
be under 100%, there will always be unanticipated costs.
Staff Reports: The donation of $5,000 covers the Friends' pledged amount of $35,000.
Staff Update: All three vacant positions in Children's Services had been filled, but one half-time
staff member resigned abruptly leaving another vacant position. The new full-time person begins
on November 25. One of Account Services' part-time staff members is leaving for a full-time job.
Aide positions are open, as is one Passport Clerk position.
Library Policy Manual Review: Changes to the Library Policy Manual were reviewed, including
the name change for Technical Services ("Cataloging and Acquisition Services") and changes to
Adult and Teen Services. The new "Rules of Conduct" formerly the "Standards of Behavior" --
were discussed; Director Bradley went over additions to the document. The switch from a written
list of procedures for the Study Rooms to a written policy document was also reviewed.
A motion to accept the Library Policy Manual, Rules of Conduct, and Study Room Policy as
corrected was made by Trustee Renfrew, seconded by Trustee HasBrouck, and passed on a
voice vote.

Holiday Cookies: The annual holiday -cookie tradition will run from December 16-20. The
Board Members will provide cookies on the following dates:
Dec. 16: Trustee Wang; Dec. 17: Trustee HasBrouck; Dec. 18: Chair Delphey;
Dec. 19: Trustee Renfrew; Dec. 20: Trustee Carter
Gilb Museum of Arcadia Heritage: Director Bradley reviewed programs and upcoming events
at the Museum. She also mentioned that the Woman's Club scrapbook collection is being digitized
and will be made available in spring 2020. The Friends of the Museum have a DAR grant to
digitize the Veterans' Registry and they are also working on digitizing the Fire Department's
records. The Museum is also working with the Arcadia Chinese Association to present a talk by
Dr. Wang.
Calendars, Flyers, Historical Photo: Upcoming Library events were reviewed including the
2020 Book Discussion Group calendar and the International Film Program. The Board expressed
interest in a Learning Lab on the new Westlaw digital resource.

The motion was moved by Trustee Renfrew, seconded by Trustee Carter, and carried on a voice
vote.
