HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 12b - Donation from Hakka Foundation for the Gilb Museum of Arcadia Heritage DATE: February 18, 2020 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Darlene Bradley, Director of Library and Museum Services] SUBJECT: DONATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,000 FROM THE HAKKA FOUNDATION FOR THE GILB MUSEUM OF ARCADIA HERITAGE Recommendation: Accept SUMMARY The Hakka Foundation would like to donate $1,000 to the Gilb Museum of Arcadia Heritage to further support its educational programs that share the love of local Arcadia history with the community. It is recommended the City Council accept this donation. DISCUSSION The Hakka Foundation is a local Arcadia-based agency that has been very supportive of the Gilb Museum of Arcadia Heritage as well as the Floretta K. Lauber Museum Education Center. This donation will help the Museum continue to develop and offer free Museum quality educational programs and experiences to the youth and families of the community. All gifts $1,000 or more are subject to approval by the City Council pursuant to City Charter Section 809(d). ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS The proposed action does not constitute a project under the California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”), and it can be seen with certainty that it will have no impact on the environment. Thus, this matter is exempt under CEQA. FISCAL IMPACT The Gilb Museum of Arcadia Heritage has a finite budget and the generous support of the Hakka Foundation enables the Museum to offer local history educational programs and experiences above and beyond the current level of City funding. This additional Accept Donation of $1,000 from the Hakka Foundation for the Gilb Museum of Arcadia Heritage February 18, 2020 Page 2 of 2 money allows for the purchase of tactile educational materials and supplies that directly benefit the youth of the community, including the Summer Enrichment program, the drop-in Kids Corner, the Museum Preschool program as well as elementary classroom visits at the Museum. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended the City Council determines that this action does not constitute a project and is therefore exempt under the California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”); and accept a donation in the amount of $1,000 from the Hakka Foundation for the Gilb Museum of Arcadia Heritage.
