PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, organ, tissue, marrow, and blood donations are life-giving acts
recognized worldwide as expressions of compassion to those in need; and
WHEREAS, more than 112,000 are currently on the national organ
transplant waiting list, and an average of 17 people die each day waiting for a
donated organ; and
WHEREAS, a living donor can provide a kidney or a portion of their liver,
lung, pancreas, or intestine. People of all ages and medical histories should
consider themselves potential donors; and
WHEREAS, a single individual’s donation of the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys,
pancreas and small intestine can save up to eight lives; donation of tissue can save
or heal the lives of up to 75 other individuals; and a single blood donation can help
three people in need; and
WHEREAS, more than 39,700 organ transplants were performed in the U.S.
in 2019, which was made possible through the generosity of deceased and living
donors; and
WHEREAS, California residents can sign up with the Donate Life California
Registry when applying for or renewing their driver’s licenses or ID cards at the
California Department of Motor Vehicles.
NOW THEREFORE, I, April A. Verlato, Mayor of the City of Arcadia, do
hereby proclaim the month of April 2020 as:
DMV/DONATE LIFE CALIFORNIA MONTH
and encourage all Arcadia residents to learn the facts about organ and tissue
donation, and check “YES!” when applying for or renewing their driver’s license
or I.D. card, or by signing up at www.donateLIFEcalifornia.org
