Have you thought about how the City might change over the next 20 years? Did you realize that what we do today can help the next generation of Arcadia residents and business owners enjoy the successful community we now experience? The City is updating its General Plan. To guide this discussion and set the framework for decision-making about land use, traffic, housing, infrastructure, public safety, and parks and recreation issues, the City has initiated a program to update its General Plan. Every city in California is required to maintain a forward-looking plan called a General Plan. Arcadia’s General Plan was last revised comprehensively in 1996, with the exception of the Housing Element, which was updated in 2001. Now the City looks to address broader issues and to respond to a changing economic, environmental, and social landscape. The General Plan has a wide scope. All services the City provides, from police and fire protection to water distribution and waste collection, are governed by goals and policies found in the General Plan. Likewise, all housing policy and land use decisions must conform to the General Plan. No matter the area of civic life that concerns or interests you the most, the General Plan has something to say about it. If you have ideas to share about Arcadia’s future, please come and discuss it with a City staff at the Planning Division booth at the Police Department Open House on May 31, 2008. The event is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Police Department Headquarters, located at 250 W. Huntington Drive, Arcadia, CA 91007. For more information about the General Plan program and upcoming workshops and meetings, please visit the City’s website at www.ci.arcadia.ca.us, under Development Services Department, or you may contact Lisa Flores, Senior Planner at (626) 574-5445.
