HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 11b - Cancel January 5, 2021 City Council Meeting DATE: December 1, 2020 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Dominic Lazzaretto, City Manager By: Linda Rodriguez, Assistant City Clerk SUBJECT: CANCELLATION OF THE JANUARY 5, 2021, REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING Recommendation: Approve SUMMARY Due to the timing of the holidays and a very light agenda, it is recommended that the January 5, 2021, City Council meeting be cancelled. DISCUSSION Traditionally, the City Council has cancelled one meeting per year around the holidays in order to ease schedules when many employees, Council Members, and contractors tend to take significant time off. This year, the January 5, 2021, City Council meeting falls closest to, and would be most affected by, the year-end holidays. There are currently no time-sensitive items that have been scheduled for the January 5 meeting. If the City Council cancels the meeting, staff will plan ahead, ensuring there are no delays in a time-sensitive item that would otherwise be addressed at that meeting. Should a necessity arise, a special meeting could be conducted to expedite any item which might require immediate City Council action. ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS The proposed action does not constitute a project under the California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”), and it can be seen with certainty that it will have no impact on the environment. Thus, this matter is exempt under CEQA. Cancellation of the July 7, 2020, Regular City Council Meeting June 16, 2020 Page 2 of 2 FISCAL IMPACT There will be very minor savings in printing costs and staff overtime by not conducting this meeting. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council determine that this action does not constitute a project and is, therefore, exempt under the California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”); and approve the cancellation of the January 5, 2021, regular City Council meeting; and direct the City Clerk’s office to post the required notices.
