PUBLIC LIBRARY FOR LIBRARY PROGRAMMING
Recommendation: Accept
SUMMARY
The Friends of the Arcadia Public Library have offered a gift of $35,000 to fund Library
programming for children from January 2021 through June 2021. It is recommended that
the City Council accept a donation.
DISCUSSION
The Friends of the Arcadia Public Library (the “Friends”), as part of their mission to
support the Library’s goals and objectives, are donating $35,000 to the Library to fund
ongoing programming for children. Prior to the COVID-related closure, the Friends of the
Arcadia Public Library raised funds through sales of used books and other items at the
Friends Bookstore, located inside the Arcadia Public Library. Currently, the Friends raise
funds through Amazon Smile and limited sales held outside the Library building.
The funds donated by the Friends help the Library provide quality programs for the
children of Arcadia beyond the current capacity of the City’s General Fund. All gifts to the
Library over $1,000 are subject to approval by the City Council pursuant to City Charter
Section 809(d).
