TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: Darlene Bradley, Director of Library and Museum Services
SUBJECT: ACCEPT GIFT OF $1,500 FROM THE ARCADIA CHINESE
ASSOCIATION FOR LIBRARY MATERIALS
Recommendation: Accept
SUMMARY
The Arcadia Chinese Association has offered a gift of $1,500 to purchase additional new
library collections for the Summer Reading Program.
DISCUSSION
The Arcadia Chinese Association is donating $1,500 to the Library to purchase new
library materials for children, teens, and adults in support of the Summer Reading
Program. These additional items in the collection will help add new and additional copies
of very popular titles, thus continuing to encourage our community to find readily available
materials and to read throughout the summer.
The funds donated by the Arcadia Chinese Association help the Library provide quality
collections for our community beyond the current capacity of the City’s General Fund. All
gifts to the Library over $1,000 are subject to approval by the City Council pursuant to
City Charter Section 809(d).
ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS
The proposed action does not constitute a project under the California Environmental
Quality Act (“CEQA”), and it can be seen with certainty that it will have no impact on the
environment. Thus, this matter is exempt under CEQA.
FISCAL IMPACT
The Library’s materials collections, including the purchase of new and popular book titles
for the residents of Arcadia, is enhanced by this gift of $1,500.
