REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
WEDNESDAY, May 5, 2021
As part of the City of Arcadia's COVID-19 transmission mitigation efforts, this meeting of the
Arcadia Museum Commission was conducted by conference call.
CALL TO ORDER — Chair Jeanne Roy called the meeting to order at 5:01 p.m. in a conference
call

Commissioner Tone motioned to excuse the absence of Commissioner Carlos Reza Jr.,
seconded by Commissioner Carter, and carried on a voice vote.

REPORTS FROM MUSEUM COMMISSION MEMBERS I LIAISONS:
April Verlato reported on City Council's meeting last night. There will be a flag tribute to celebrate
the City's military personnel. This will also incorporate Blue Star families. There are no COVID
updates. It has been 3-4 days since the last COVID-related death in L.A. County. Tomorrow there
will be a community forum on homelessness and the tiny homes project. Ginny Blitz reported the
Friends of the Museum (FAM) Board will convene tomorrow. The FAM will put an ad for the Gilb
Museum in the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce booklet. The Arcadia Chamber of Commerce will
be celebrating their centennial this year.
REPORT FROM THE DIRECTOR: Darlene Bradley reported that the Arcadia Public Library
reopened last Monday, May 3rd. The Museum will be reopening in July. The Le Meridien Hotel will
be the home of two History Lives Here Signs, the Parker Lyons Pony Express Museum and Anita
M. Baldwin. The NBC show Good Girls will be filming today, tomorrow, and Thursday.
REPORT FROM THE CURATOR: Curator Acevedo reported that she has updated the
permanent exhibits in the main Museum gallery, as well as the Arcadia at the Movies exhibit. She
is currently working on the Women of Arcadia Exhibit, which was previously the Floretta K. Lauber
exhibit. Ms. Acevedo has been photographing letters and postcards from the Anthony W.
Wilkinson Collection and uploading them to FromThePage where virtual volunteers can help by
transcribing the documents. The Gilb Museum has also been the recipient of donations from
Nguyen Tran, who donated 16 local restaurant menus from the city of Arcadia, and Darlene
Besocke, who donated three scrapbooks on behalf of the Santa Anita Chapter of the Daughters
of the American Revolution. The Museum also held its first Virtual Transcribe-a-thon and Lucky
Baldwin -themed Trivia Night. The Senior Services Department at the Arcadia Community Center
asked the Museum to participate in a partnership with them and to provide a monthly presentation
to local seniors. The LA Metro also requested the Gilb Museum to conduct a virtual presentation
for seniors in the Greater Los Angeles area. The Gilb Museum is the recipient of the Cataloging
California grant from the California State Library to help fund a paid internship for the Anthony
Wilkinson Collection, as well as the Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship grant for two
internships, a Curatorial and Collections internship and an Education and Marketing internship,
which will both run throughout the summer of 2021. Ms. Acevedo informed the Commission that
the Museum was the recipient of the Arcadia Council PTA Honorary Service Award. Curator
Acevedo also had intern Angela Song assisting in grant writing. The Museum created a new teen
internship for the Faces of Arcadia Oral History project.
REPORT FROM THE MUSEUM EDUCATION COORDINATOR: Museum Education Coordinator
Brittani Alberto informed the Commission that she held 16 virtual school programs with 3r, grade
classes from Camino Grove Elementary, Hugo Reid Elementary, and Holly Avenue Elementary.
Ms. Alberto also provided free educational kits every month for the year 2021. Kits for the month
of May were prepared with the help of local Girl Scout Pearl Wong, who bagged soil and pumpkin
seeds for the Plantastic Kits. Ms. Alberto also scheduled a Girl Scout Program with Daisy Troop
71181, which will run once a month every month until July. Ms. Alberto's intern Hanita Le helped
to create lesson plans for educational programming, design kits for preschoolers, and conduct
Girl Scout programs.

Commission Member Tone moved to approve Consent Calendar Item "a", which was seconded
by Commission Member Blitz, and carried on a voice vote.

ADJOURNMENT
Chair Jeanne Roy adjourned the meeting at 5:37 p.m. to Wednesday, July 7 in the Museum
Education Center, 382 W. Huntington Dr., Arcadia.
