This purchase is used to help support the Museum’s programs, exhibits, and curation. DISCUSSION The Gilb Museum Donor Tree is a way that individual community members can help financially support the Gilb Museum of Arcadia Heritage and honor or recognize a loved one, family member, friend, or even an organization. There are four levels of donations, from $250 to $10,000, each representative to a specific copper, bronze, silver, or gold leaf that may be purchased. Once purchased, the individual, family, or organization’s name is engraved on the leaf and the leaf is placed on the Donor Tree in the main lobby of the Gilb Museum. The Donor Tree was created in 2001 as part of the original exhibit planning and design phase, for the lobby wall of the new museum building, originally named the Ruth & Charles Gilb Arcadia Historical Museum. The Donor Tree was created by local artist Lester Williams and leaves could and still can be regularly purchased and added to the Donor Tree at any time. The funding raised by the Donor Tree assists the Gilb Museum to provide support for programs, exhibit design and construction, and curation of collections, above and beyond the current capacity of the City’s General Fund. Accept Gift of $5,000 in support of the Gilb Museum July 20, 2021 Page 2 of 2 Joanna Liang has offered to purchase a Silver Leaf in the amount of $5,000 under this program. All gifts to the Museum over $1,000 are subject to approval by the City Council pursuant to City Charter Section 809(d). ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS The proposed action does not constitute a project under the California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”), and it can be seen with certainty that it will have no impact on the environment. Thus, this matter is exempt under CEQA. FISCAL IMPACT The Gilb Museum’s ability to provide additional supplies for high quality programs, exhibits, and collection curation is very much enhanced by this gift of $5,000 over and above the City’s General Fund allocation to the Museum. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council determine that this project is exempt under the California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”); and accept a gift in the amount of $5,000 from the Liang family to purchase a silver leaf for the Donor Tree at the Gilb Museum of Arcadia Heritage. It is also recommended that going forward, the Donor Tree donations do not need to seek City Council approval.
