Subject: Geotechnical Engineer's Certification of Demolition and Backfilling of
Pre-Existing Swimming Pool for Abandoning Purpose Located at 941
Victoria Drive,Arcadia,CA 91007
Dear Mr. & Mrs. Kuo/Mr. Wang:
In accordance with the requirements of the City and per your request and authorization,
this certification has been prepared for the demolition and backfilling of the pre-existing
swimming pool located at the subject site.
1. We understand that creation of drainage holes along the bottom of the swimming pool
by puncturing/breaking-out the pool shell has been approved by the City inspector
prior to backfilling the swimming pool.
2. Removal of the coping, bond beam, and upper portions of the swimming pool shell
side walls has also been performed and approved by the City Inspector.
3. We also understand that all utility lines serving the swimming pool were
terminated/disconnected/removed and plugged/capped and approved by the City
Inspector.

4. Regular soil fill materials generally consisted of silty fine sand with traces of clay,
was placed in thin lifts, added water by using a water hose, and compacted to 90 %
relative density by using a mini Bobcat equipped with a small compactor.
Conclusion: The demolition and backfilling of the pre-existing swimming pool is
considered geotechnically acceptable and suitable for the intended use.
Note: If a structural object such as an ADU/room addition is to be constructed at or near
the swimming pool backfill area in the future, Geotechnical International or a qualified
geotechnical engineer should be consulted. A soil report may be required by the city for
provision of geotechnical recommendations for structural and foundation design as well
as for remedial removal of the native soils located beneath the proposed new structure to
reduce the potential differential settlements of the underlying soils which may cause
distress to the proposed new structure.
