Winnie Way Arcadia, CA 91006 SUBJECT: Compaction Test Results of Swimming Pool Backfill Permit No.: Demo-20-2007 311 E. Winnie Way, Arcadia, CA 91006 This is to report the results of field density tests performed during placement and compaction of compacted fill for the removal of the existing pool at the subject project. The existing pool was approximately 4 to 6 feet in depth. The top 2 feet of the existing pool wall/shell (coping) and existing utility conduit were removed. Three holes (3' x 3') were cut at the bottom of the existing pool for drainage and covered with a minimum of 12-inch thick gravel/broken concrete. The drainage holes were observed and approved by a city inspector before placing the compacted fill. The pool was backfilled with imported soils, yellowish brown to brown, fine to coarse, slightly silty to silty sand with some gravel, watered to near optimum moisture conditioned and mechanically compacted in loose lifts approximately 8 inches in thickness by a Bobcat and jumping jack. Each lift was treated in a like manner until the desired finish grades were achieved. The specified minimum degree of compaction was ninety (90) percent of the maximum dry density, as determined by ASTM D 1557 standard. Maximum dry density and optimum moisture determinations of the fill soil used are tabulated in Table One. In place soil densities were determined in accordance with ASTM D 1556 standard. Test results are tabulated in Table Two. The test locations are presented on the Site Plan, attached. 311 E. Winnie Way, Arcadia, CA -2- CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS The drainage holes covered with gravel/broken concrete were inspected and approved by a city inspector before placing compacted fill. The compacted fill placed at the pool is Non Structural Fill to support landscape area. The observations and test results indicate that the compaction of the pool backfill was accomplished in accordance with the City of Arcadia grading ordinance. The material processing under the purview of this report has been completed under the observation of and with selected testing by Pacific Geotech. The soils used in the compacted fill are generally classified as yellowish brown to brown, fine to coarse. slightly silty to silty sand with some gravel. The completed backfill condition is suitable for the intended use. REMARKS The conclusions or opinion drawn from the tests and site observation apply only to our work with respect to grading and represent condition at the date our final observation. This office assumes no responsibility for other fills placed on the site or for any subsequent changes to the site made by others after the final date of our field observation.
