DATE: October 19, 2021
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: Dominic Lazzaretto, City Manager
By: Linda Rodriguez, Assistant City Clerk
SUBJECT: REPORT, DISCUSSION, AND DIRECTION REGARDING MODIFYING
THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING SCHEDULE DURING SUMMER MONTHS
Recommendation: Provide Direction
SUMMARY
At the August 17, 2021, City Council Meeting, Council Member Beck made a suggestion
that City Council meetings be cancelled during the month of July due to summer family
vacations and other reasons, including the fact that agendas are typically very light during
that timeframe. Council Member Beck requested support from two other City Council
members to add this item to an upcoming agenda. Council Member Verlato and Council
Member Chandler concurred.
It is recommended that the City Council discuss cancelling City Council meetings during
the month of July or some other summer month timeframe and provide direction.
ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS
The proposed action does not constitute a project under the California Environmental
Quality Act (“CEQA”), and it can be seen with certainty that it will have no impact on the
environment. Thus, this matter is exempt under CEQA.
FISCAL IMPACT
There would be minor savings to the General Fund in agenda printing and preparation
costs as well as overtime costs for each meeting cancelled.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council provide direction regarding modifying the City
Council meeting schedule during summer months.
