SUBJECT: DONATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,000 FROM THE HAKKA
FOUNDATION FOR THE PURCHASE OF SUPPLIES, SERVICES, AND
PROGRAMMING AT THE GILB MUSEUM OF ARCADIA HERITAGE
Recommendation: Accept
SUMMARY
The Hakka Foundation is offering a gift of $1,000 to the Gilb Museum of Arcadia
Heritage to purchase supplies, services, and programs in support of the Gilb Museum
children’s educational programs that encourage community involvement with Arcadia’s
history, past and present. It is recommended that the City Council accept this gift.
DISCUSSION
The Hakka Foundation has been very supportive of the Gilb Museum and the Floretta
K. Lauber Museum Education Center, especially supporting programs for the youth in
the community. This donation will help support the Museum’s goals and objectives,
including providing educational opportunities for children to learn more about their local
history. Through carefully curated collections, exhibits, and educational programs, the
Museum invites the community to discover, create dialog, provide a place for reflection,
and foster a connected and shared identity for learning and discussion.
The Hakka Foundation gift will help provide the Museum with funds to create micro-
history lesson kits, Time Machine Kits for classroom education, and artifacts such as
Bone Clones for tactical learning experiences for preschool and elementary school
children at the Museum and through outreach to community groups.
By accepting and approving this $1,000 gift, the Hakka Foundation helps the Gilb
Museum of Arcadia Heritage and the City of Arcadia provide hands-on programs to
learn about Arcadia history for the citizens of Arcadia beyond the current capacity of the
City’s General Fund. Without the generous support of the Hakka Foundation, the array

of programs would be diminished in quality and quantity. Gifts $1,000 or more are
subject to approval by the City Council pursuant to City Charter Section 809(d).
ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS
The proposed action does not constitute a project under the California Environmental
Quality Act (“CEQA”), and it can be seen with certainty that it will have no impact on the
environment. Thus, this matter is exempt under CEQA.
FISCAL IMPACT
The acceptance and approval of the $1,000 gift would be a positive fiscal impact for the
Museum. It will provide additional revenue to specifically purchase much needed
supplies for public programming for children.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended the City Council accept a donation in the amount of $1,000 from the
Hakka Foundation for the purchase of supplies, services, and programming at the Gilb
Museum of Arcadia Heritage.
