REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
WEDNESDAY, September 1, 2021
CALL TO ORDER — Chair Jeanne Roy called the meeting to order at 5:01 p.m. in the Museum
Education Center.

Commissioner Carter moved to excuse the absence of Commissioners Billie Tone and Virgini
Blitz. Seconded by Commissioner Yang and carried on a voice vote. i

REPORTS FROM MUSEUM COMMISSION MEMBERS I LIAISONS
Councilmember Verlato reported that there will be no City Council meeting on September 7. The
next City Council meeting will take place September 21. Commissioner Carter made a note that
it was Angela Yang's first day on the Museum Commission. Commissioner Yang introduced
herself, stating that she attended Camino Grove Elementary, has seven years museum
experience, and currently works in fundraising for the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA).
REPORT FROM THE DIRECTOR
Director Bradley reported Arcadia Public Library and Gilb Museum of Arcadia Heritage are both
completely open to the public, however both are still taking COVID-19 safety precautions. The
budget was passed. A fireproof cabinet was installed at the Museum. At the Arcadia Public Library
five of 11 position vacancies were filled. On September 13 th a new teen librarian will start.
REPORT FROM THE CURATOR
Curator Acevedo reported that Getty intern Michele Huizar is finishing up the Santa Anita
Japanese Assembly Center exhibit kiosk and she is also working on the Gilb Museum's 20t'
Anniversary exhibit. She recently finished a Fire Department exhibit in upper City Hall. Curator
Acevedo is also currently working with intern Rebecca Andersen on the Anthony Wilkinson
Collection. The letters from this collection have been digitized and are transcribed by members of
the community on Fromthe Page. com. Currently 9,000 community hours have been dedicated to
this project. Ms. Acevedo is also working on the Camp Santa Anita letter collection, which consists
of 191 letters. These letters have been digitized and are being transcribed by adult volunteer
Deborah Cordano. Curator Acevedo has also informed the Commission that the Friends of the
Arcadia Museum did not have a meeting in July but did have one in August. The meetings have
been dedicated to the planning of the Museum's 20th Anniversary event. Ms. Acevedo also visited
the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association, where she met President Ada Gates Patton
and Librarian Vivian Montoya. She also attended the Arcadia Women's Club Building 90th
Anniversary event along with the Getty Marrow Undergraduate Interns.
REPORT FROM THE MUSEUM EDUCATION CORDINATOR
Education Coordinator Alberto reported that she had finished conducting the 2021 Virtual Summer
Enrichment Program, which had about 400 participants. Ms. Alberto also continues to distribute
kits to the local community, including the August Music Makers and Shakers Kit. The Gilb Museum
has distributed 100 Archaeology and Paleontology kits at the City's two Concerts in the Park
events. So far, for the year of 2021, the Gilb Museum has distributed over 1,000 kits. Ms. Alberto
is also creating content and will present the three-part Baldwin series exploring Lucky Baldwin,
Anita Baldwin, and Clara Baldwin Stocker in collaboration with the Senior Services Department.
The Gilb Museum currently has 36 volunteers, including both teens and adults. Many teen
volunteers are also involved in the Faces of Arcadia teen internship, where they interview
members of the community.

Commission Member Yang moved to approve Consent Calendar Item "a", which was seconded
by Commission Member Carter, and carried on a voice vote.

ADJOURNMENT
Chair Roy adjourned this meeting at 5:28 p.m. to Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. in
the Museum Education Center, 382 W. Huntington Dr., Arcadia.
