The City Planning Commission met in re~ meeting with Chairman Pike
pt-esiding.
P.aESDT: Mr. Anderson, Insatad, Pike, Pippin, Shaw, Sullivan, Cor.Dyn, Klomp,
Watson and Talley.
ABSENT: Ilr. Minton.
Motion by Hr. Sbaw, seoonded by Mr. IJ28stad IlDIl carried that the min-
utes of the meeting of Deoember 2nd be approved as written and mailed.
Pursuant to notioe given, a public hearing was held on the petition of
John D. Myers and F. D. Myers requesting a zone varianoe to allow the con-
struotion of Single family dwellings on sites oontaining 5000 square feet
on Eighth Avenue south of Norman Avenue. Protest petition represent1ng 10
paroels of land was read. Jobn Bkkins, 1924 S.Sixth Avenue spoke against
the granting of the variance, Attorney James Bone represented the petitioner.
!lotion by Mr. Shaw that the request be reoommended for approva:L, on the
grounds that the City and CM'ner :probably share a Joint :responsibility for the
Pl'esent layout of the Traot. Said. motion was seconded by Yr. Sullivan and
lost by the folloW1Dg vot e:

Petition of Millard F, Hartley, OI'i'l1er, and George A. Dudley, purohaser,
requested a permanent exception to the Zoning Ordill8nce to allow the 00.0-
struction and operation of a steam laundry on lots 32, 33 and 34, Blook 76,
Santa Anita Traot, located at the sOlltheast oorner of Santa Anita Aveno.e and
Santa Clara Street, and now zoned C-2. Motion by lBr. Shaw, seoonded by Mr.
Sullivan and carried that the matter be set for public hearing at 8:00 P. Ji{.,
January 6, 1949, and that the Seoretary notify the petitioner to submit a
plot plan showiDg the layout of the proposed building on the lot, >>rovis,ions
for public parking, employee parking, loading, etc,. and an architect's
sketch showing the type of building proposed.
Communication fram Anna M, Rexinger requested a change of zone from
Zone a-1 to Zone R-3 on her property located on the northeast oorner of S~ta
Att1ta A.venue and proposed Christina Street, south of Duarte Road. !lotion by
Mr. Shaw, seconded by Mr. Pippin am earr1ed that as this request is raising
the restrict10ns on the property, and oonforms to the proposed new zoning,
it is recommended for approval,
Communication from Jobn fl. 1qnan and James Evinger suggested certain
changes Ul Tract No. 15703, looated at SiXth Avenue and Longden Annue. Mr.
Charles Ganthe1:' spoke on the same matter. Motion by Yr. Shaw, seoonded by
Mr. Anderson and car1:'1ed that as the Commission had held a hearing and
1:'endered a decision, the matter was 1.0 the hands of the City Council.
Motion by Mr. Shaw, seoonded by Mr. Ingstad and oarried that the City
Attorney be re~ested to contaot the San Gabriel Valley Lumber Co. and inform
them that they must fu1!ill the requirements of Ord1l1ance No. 655 granting
a zone variance for a lumber yard.
Motion by Mr, Shaw, seconded by Mr. Ingstad and carried that the SeO-
retary contact Mr. 1Ih1tnall to ascertain the extent and nature of the neo-
essary survey and cost to prepare a master plan of streeta of the areas now
unsubdiv1ded, to coordinate with existing streets, and to be oompleted 111 thin
60 days. Mr. \thi tnall to be prepared to discuss this matter on Jano.ary 3rd.
Motion by Mr. Shaw, seconded by Mr. Sullivan and aarried that the meet-
