The City Planning Commission met in regular meeting with Chairman Pippin presiding. PRESENT: Mr. Anderson, Pippin, Sullivan, Cornyn, Klomp, Watson and Godso. ~ ) , ABSENT: Mr. Ingstad, Shaw, Stoner and Talley. In the absence of a quorum, the meeting was adjourned until 8:00 P. Pursuant to the foregoing adjournment, the City Planning Commission met in adjourned regular meeting with Chairman Pippin presiding. PRESENT: Mr. Anderson, Pippin, Shaw, Sullivan, Cornyn, Klomp and Godso. ABSENT: Mr. Ingstad, Stoner, Watson and Talley. In the absence of the Secretary, Mr. Godso served as acting secretary. The matter of Tract No. 16091, north of Longden Avenue and west of Tenth Avenue was considered. Motion by Mr. Shaw, seconded by Mr. Anderson and carried that the tract as submitted be disapproved because of the streets not being standard width. The subdivider was instructed to submit a new map conforming to standard street requirements. The matter of the request of United Parcel Service for permission to operate in Zone C-2 was considered. Motion by Mr. Shaw, seconded by Mr. Anderson and carried that this Commission recommend to the City Council that the business of Parcel Delivery be classified as a permissible use in Zone C-2, and that the building be allowed to extend 10 feet into the R-) Zone at the rear of the lot, subject to the condition that no auto- mati ve service be allowed except washing ~ servicing with gas and oil. The Regional Planning Commission submitted for recommendation revised tentative map of Tract No. 15987, located at the southeast corner of Tyler Avenue and Live Oak Avenue. Motion by Mr. Anderson, seconded by Mr. Shaw and carried that the Regional Planning Co~nission be notified that the subdivision is not up to the standards of the City, and is recommended for denial. Letter from the Regional Planning Commission explained that they had granted conditional approval for Tracts No 16059 and 15820 over the protest of the City, because the tracts conformed to County requirements. The letter was ordered filed. Letter from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to Attorney Cornyn notified the City that the Regional Planning Commission had been instructed to survey a certain area adjacent to Arcadia, with a view to placing the territory in a zone which would require larger lot areas. The letter was ordered filed. .. . . ... . . Letter from the Regional Pranning Commission notified of a public hearing on July 13th on the request of the Home Builders' Institute to reduce subdivision standards and improvements. Mr. Anderson and Talley were instructed to attend the hearing and represent Arcadia. By letter A. Jean Lyman, 1016 Baldwin Avenue, requested a permanent zoning for the Arcadia Pre-School. Mr. Sullivan and Mr. Shaw were appointed as a committee to investigate and report at the next meeting. Application of Ross A. Himes and June Nancy Himes, 2607 So. Pursuant to notice given, and to the foregping adjournment, a public hearing was held on the application of Joe E. Earll and Lou G. Earll for a zone variance on lots 1 to 6 inclusive, and lots 12 to 17 inclusive, ! Block 61~, Santa Anita Tract, located at Second Avenue and Duarte Road, now situated in Zone R-2, for poultry and rabbit slaughter, retail florist Shpp, retail garden supplies, retail meat and poultry market and delicatessen store, and a nursery for the growing and sale of flowers and plants. The petitioners were represented by Attorney James Bone. Protest petition bearing 58 signatures was received. Also a protest telegram from W. O. Hokanson, and a letter favoring the variance from Alice G. Slemons. Mr. Lohman spoke in favor of the variance. Mr. Taisch, 805 So. Second Avenue, and R. F. Hardy, 716 So. Second Avenue, opposed any change. At the conclusion of the hearing, the Commission recessed to consider the matter. Upon reconvening, motion was made by rb>. Shaw that the petition be recommended for denial. Said motion was seconded by Mr. Anderson and carried by the following vote: AYES: Mr. Anderson, Pippin and Shaw. . NOES: Mr. Sullivan.
