On aooount of the meeting of the League of California Cities in Aroadia,
the regular Planning Commission meeting was adjourned until Friday, July 22,
1949, at 8:00 o'olook, P. M. ~

Pursuant to the foregoing adjourmnent, the City Planning Commission met
in adjourned regular meeting With Chairman Pippin presiding.
PRESmT: Mr. Anderson, Ingstad, Pippin, Shaw, stoner, Sullivan, cornyn, Klomp
and Talley.
ABSENT: Mr. watson.
Motion by Mr. Sullivan, seoonded by Mr. Amierson and carried that the
minutes of the meetings of June 16th, July 7th and July 8th be approved as
written and mailed.
The Seoretary announoed that a Resolution had been prepared for adoption
setting forth the action of the Oommission in the matter of the applioation
for zone variance by Joe E. and Lou G. Earll. Motion by Mr. Shaw that con-
sideration of the Resolution be held over until August 4th. Said motion was
seconded by Mr. Anderson and oarried by the fOllOWing vote:
AYES: Mr. Anderson, Ingstad, Pil?l?in, Shaw, Stoner and Sullivan.
NOES: None.
Mr. Sullivan and Mr. Shaw reported on their investigation of the re-
quest of hIrs. A. Jean Lyman, 1016 S. BaldWin Ave11lle, for a permanent vari-
anoe for a nursery sohool. They stated that they had informed her of the
proper prooedure for applying for a varianoe, and stated that they saw no
objeotion to the granting of suoh a varianoe. No aotion was taken.
Oleve Patton requested a ohange of setbaok on lots 8 and 9, Blook 68,
Tract No. 866, on Fano Street, from 30 feet to 15 feet. Mr. Anderson and
Mr. Ingstad were appointed to investigate the property and report baok.
Hugh M. UcQ.uown re9.uested :permission to build on a lot. having 57.81
feet frontage on Tenth J>.venue. The matter was referred to Mr. Sullivan and
Mr. Stoner to investigate and report back.
Viotor J. Wagoner, 140 W. Longden Avenue, requested permission for Mr!
Dan Healy to oonstruot two glass houses on his :property for the raising of
orohids. The matter was referred to Mr. Shaw and Mr. Sullivan to investigate
and report.
Mr. Henry O. Spurgeon, 1127 El Monte Avenue, requested permission to
operate a shirt laundry in Zone C-2. M:otion by Mr. Shaw, seoonded by Mr.
Ingstad and oarried that the a:pplicant be instructed. to Stlbmit a written
request, and that this Commission express its intention to recommend that
the business of a light servioe laundry, limited to Shirts and fine linens,
be inoluded in the uses permitted in ~one C-2, and that the City Attorney
be instruoted to prepare such a Resolution.

Motion by Mr. Shaw that the Secretary be instrncted to notify the
City Oouncil that the zone variance granted to George Williams by Ordinance
No. 643 to operate a riding academy on East Longden Avenue had expired on
June 16, 1949, but still continues to operate, and recommending that action
be taken to see that operations be diacontinued. Said motion was seoonded
by AIr. Ingstad and carried by the following vote:
AYES: Mr. Anderson, Ingstad, Pippin, Shaw, Stoner and Sullivan.
NOES: None.
llotion by Mr. Shaw that the Seoretary notify the City Council that,
in the opinion of the Commission, the operation of a hay barn on the north
1 side of Longden Avenue, east of Sixth Avenue, is in violation of the Zoning
Ordinance, and requesting that action be taken to discontinue a1ch operation.
Said motion was seconded by Mr. Ingstad and carried by the following vote:
AYES: Mr. Anderson, Ingstad, Pi:p:pin, ShaW, Stoner and Sullivan.
NOES: none.
The Seoretary was inst1'llcted to Sllbni t to the Commission a list of all
zone varianoes which had been granted with time 11mi ts, and to notify the
Commission 30 days in advance of any expiration date.
Mr. Anderson reported on the hearing before the Regional Planning
Commission on the application of the Kome Builders' Institute for a reduo-
tion of requirements in subdivisions. This meeting was attended by Mr.
Anderson and the Secretary.
Letter from the City Clerk advised of the appointment of Hobert J.
>>avis, 231 cr. Longden Avenue, as a member of this Oommission to fill the
unexpired term of Roy H. Pike, ending Deoember &, 1952.
