M. in regular meeting with Chairman Shaw, Stoner, Sullivan, Cornyn, Motion by:Mr. Sullivah, seoo.aded b~ :Mr. Ingstad aIlil. c81'r1ed that the minutes of the meet1.ngs of Jul~ 21 aDd July 22 be approved as written and maUed. The Chairman appointed Mr. Sullivan, Mr. Anderson and Mr. Shaw to serve as a Resolution Committee for the next six months. Ja. Anderson and Mr. Ingstad reported on their investigation on the re~uest of Cleve Patton for a ohange of setbaok on Fano Street between Santa Anita Avenue and First Avenne. Of the ownerscontaoted, 11 were against any ohallge and 2 were in favor. Motion b~ Mr. Anderson that the request be denied. Said motion was seoollded b~ Mr. Shaw and carried by the following vote: AYES: Mr. Anderson, lngatad, Pippin, Shaw and Sullivan. NOES: Mr. Stoner. Mr. Sullivan and Mr. lltomr reported on their investigation on the request of Hugh M. Mc~own for permission to build on a lot on Tenth Ave. having 57.81 feet frontage. On aoaount of several 50 foot lots on this street, and the fact that this particular parael is carried on a separate tax bill by the County, motion was made by Mr. Sullivan, seconded by:Mr. Ingstad and oarried that the request be recmnmended for approval. Mr. Shaw and Mr. Sullivan reported on their investigation of the request of Dan Healy and Victor J. Wagoner, 140 W. Longden Avenue, for permission to establish glass houses for the commaroial raising of orchids. It was the opinion of the cmnmittee that such a project in a residential zone would not be in coIlformity with the Zoning Ordinance. Motion by Mr. Shaw, seoonded by Mr. Ingstad aIlil. carried that the request be denied. Motion by Mr. Shaw, seoonded by Mr. Anderson and oarried that in the future only matters submitted in writing will be aonsidered by this Commission. Resolution lio. 3 recommanding to the Oity Oounoil that a laundry, under certain oonditions, should be permitted in Zone C-2, was read by the Seoretary. Motion by Mr. Shaw that Resolution Bo. 3 be adopted. Said motion Was seoonded b~ Mr. Anderson and oarried by the following vote: AYES: Mr. Anderson, Ingstad, Pippin, Shaw, Stoner and SUllivan. NOES: None. Katharina Lo..ng, 623 w. Longden Avenue, requested permission to bu1ld a seoond dwelling on a lot oontaining less than 16000 square feet. The mattel' was refel'l'ed to Mr. Ingstad and Mr. Shaw to investigate. EUgene R. Cooke, 1302 S. Eighth Avenue, re~ested permission to divide and sell a 60 foot lot. The matter was referred to Mr. Anderson and Mr. stoner to investigate. Walter and Dorothy Greene, 111 N. Fifth Avenue, requested permission to add kitchens to their court cottages. The City Counoil re:ferred to this Commission a petition protesting the proposed openiJ2g o:f Seventh Avenue between Duarte Road and Camino Real. The matter was set for a publio hearing on September 1st, snd the Seoretary instructed to notify all interested owners. Rev1sed tentative map of Traot No. 15960, located on Altura Road, was submitted for approval. Motion by Mr. Sullivan, seoonded by Mr. Shaw and oarried that approval be reoommended. The Chairman announoed that the Resolutiona Oammittee had prepared Resolution lIfo. 2 reoommend1J2g the denial of the applioation of Joe E. Earll for a ~one var1anoe to allow oertain oommercial uses at 221 E. Duarte Road. Mot10n by Mr. Shaw that Resolution lIfo. 2 be adopted. BOn: Beoause 01' the absence 01' Mr. Ingstad and Mr. Stoner at the time of hearing on this petition on July 8th, they did not vote on the Resolution. -~ Pursuant to notioe given, a public hearing was held on the application of Ross A.. and June lianey Himes for B ohfUlge of zone on property at the northwest corner of Santa Anita Avenue anA Las Tunas Drive. The petition was read by the Seoretary. .A.lso a letter from Yr. and Mrs. Galen S. Stouder, 116 Sandl'a Aveme, opposing the variance, and a letter 1'rom Herbert Kalli- weda and a petition signed by 14 persone favoring the variance. Mr. Himes 'oj presented his oase. Favoring the petition were A. W. Hall, 102 W. Las I' i'unas Dr., J. S. Foto, 2606S. Santa Anita Avenue, F. 1,[. Brose, 127 'll. Las Tunas Dr., Charles D. Rosa, 2614 S. Santa Anita Ave., am. Carl Anderson, 2611 S. Seoond Avenue. Those opposed ware Thomas R. Suttner, 109 Sandra Ave., John !larshall, 117 Sandra A.ve., Bill !lessick, 158 Sandra Ave., Alva Engleman, 108 Sandra Aye. and D. L. Brown, 107 Magna Vista Avenue.' Mr. Himes filed w1 th the Commission two letters :trom the Owl Drug Oompany, and Mr. Buttner 1'11ed a letter to him from Mr. Himes. The Chairman announced that following the polioy 01' the Commission, the matter would be taken under oOl1sideration and a decision would be reDdered at some fUture date.
