The City Planning CODlllliasion met in regul ar meeting with Chairman
Anderson presiding.
PRESENT:. Mr. Anderson, Knutson, Robertson, Smith, Weickert, Cornyn,
Klomp and Talley.
ABSENT: Mr. Davis and Watson.
Copy of a letter from the City Clerk notified of the appointment of
Mr. Albert Weickert as a member of this Oommission to fill the unexpired
term or Mr. Pippin, ending December 6, 1951.
Motion by Mr. Smith, seconded by Mr. Knutson and carried that the
minutes of the meeting or February 2nd be approved as written and mailed.
The Commission disoussed the advisibil1ty of devoting some time to
creative or long term planning, and set as their objective 1'01' this year:
( a)
Recommendation to the Council of' some canstructive plans toward
the solution of our "bff Street" parking problems.
Promotion of the development of some "Major Streets".
(b)
The Chairman suggested that to expedite approval at: tentative maps
of subdivisions, and to insure sufficient time for intelligent study so
that considered judgment will result. it is deemed desirable to appoint
a special subdivision committee. Maps of all new tracts to be submitted
to the Committee at least one week before Oommission meetings. Motion
by Mr. Robertson, seconded by Mr. Knutson and carried that the Chairman
appoint such a committee. Mr. Smith, Mr. Knutson and Mr. Weickert were
appointed to the subdivision committee.
Motion by Mr. Robertson, seoonded by Mr. Smith and carried that the
Chairman appoint appropriate committees to study the problems of off street
parking and major streets.
Motion by Mr. Smith, seconded by Mr. Weickert and carried that the
Chairman appoint a committee to study applications for ~one variances
and zone changes. The Ohairman announced thst he would s,ppoint the two
last named committees at the next meeting.
The Secre~ary was instructed to write to the City Council and protest
the proposed operation of a miniature train in the Arcadia County Park.
Communication from D. E. Turner & Associates requeeted the vacation
of the drainage easement in Tract No. 1$703. as such drainage will now be
taken care of in Fifth Avenue from Tract No. 1.4665. Motion by Mr.
Robertson, seconded by Mr. Smith and carried that the request be recommended
for approval.
The application of Herbert Kalliwoda for a zone variance on Las Tunas
Drive to permit the operation of a rental yard for small equipment was
discussed. Motion by Mr. Robertson, seconded by ror. Smith and carried that
a resolution be drawn recoDllllending the grantin.3 of the request, subject to
the following conditions:

That the property be fenced.
'rhat a building, a!)proximately 20. x 24' be constructed, for
housing small tools.
That no track laying tractors be hand,led.
That no dump trucl{s be handled.
That any trailers rented shall be liIllited to 12' long.
That no outside repair work be done.
That the variance be granted for a period of 3 years.

The application of

at the next meeting.
The application of ~anuel Maler for ~ zone variance on E. Huntington
Dr. was discussed. Motion by Mr. Anderson, seconded by Mr. Knutson and
carried that a resolution be drawn recommending the granting of the
var1ance, subject to the following conditions:
Louis Hetke for a change of zone on W. Duarte
it was announced that a decision would be given
1. The applicant shall not process metal heavier than 18 guage.
2. No increase in building size.
Resolution No. 22, recommending the rezoning of certain property on
Forest Avenue, wes presented end read. Motion by ldr. Smith that Hesolution
No. 22 be adopted. Said motion was seconded by Mr. Anderson and carried by
the following vote:
AYES: Mr. Anderson, Knutson, Robertson and Smith.

ABSENT: Mr. Davis.
NOT VOTIllG: Mr. Weickert.
Communication from Rancho Santa Anita requested a change of setback on
the east side of Sunset Boulevard from 25 feet to Iv feet. Motion by Mr.
Smith, seconded by Mr. Weickert and carried that the request be recommended
for appr~val. Mr. Robertson did not vote.
Petition franMrs. F. J. Miller and others requested the Commission to
star>t proceedings to change the zone on Naomi Avenue from Zone R-I to Zone
R-). The petition was taken under consideration.
Tentative map or Tract No. 16]88, located north of Colorado Boulevard
and west of the A.T. & S.F. Ry. was referred to the subdivision committee
for rec~~endation.
Request of Lona E. McG-regor to divide a lot at 410-412 California
Street was referred to Mr. Robertson to investigate and report.
Motion by Mr. Robertson, seconded by Mr. Smith and carried that the
meeting adjourn.
