The Planning Commission met in regular meeting with Chairman
Anderson p~esiding.
PRESENT: Mr. Andersonr Berky, Knutsonr Robertson, Sorenson,
Weikertr Klomp, Nicklin and Martinek
ABSENT: Mr. Talley
Mr. James A.. Nioklin was int roduced as City Attorney represent-
ing the fi1'Dl of Burke, Marshall &: Burke.
Mr. W. P. Sorenson was introduced as the new member of the
City Planning Commission.
The minutes of the meetings of June 15 and June 19, 1950, were
ordered approved as, written and mailed.
Pursuant to notioe given, a public hearing was held on the
application of R. J. Lockmiller requesting a zoning variance at 222 E.
Huntington Drive for a hand auto 1aundry. No protests were registered.
The applioant was not present. The matter was held for consideration
at a later time. Later, during the meeting, Mr. Carr, the le asee,
appeared and explained the type of work to be done. No mechanical
equipment such as fans or blowers were to be used. The Chairman again
called for any oomment from the audienoe. No protests were registered.
Resolution No. 29 was introduced, reoommending that the varianoe be
granted for a period of three years and the laundry to operate between
the hours of 8:00 o'clook A.M. and 7:00 o'clock P.M. Motion by Mr. Rob-
ertson, seconded by Mr. Knutson and unanimously carried by Roll Call
vote that Resolution No. 29 be adopted.
The applioation of Anna Mae Roush for an addition to present
building for photo p,rinting and publishing business at 530 N. First
Avenue, Areadia, was denied. The motion for denial was made by Mr. Rob-
ertson, seconded by Mr. Berky and carried. Mr. Roush was in the aud-
ience and tltated before the Commission the the primary purpose of the
new addition was for office space; that possibly if he were pressed, he
might add a stitcher.
Request of Thomas J. Whits, 440 W. Lemon Avenue, to ohange the
division of a lot from two equal lots to one 70 feet by 384 feet and
the other 61.41 feet by 384 feet, was oonsidered. Motion by Mr.Weickert,
seconded by Mr. Robertson and unanimously carried that the request be
granted.
Request of Ellen M,Morgan to divide a lot on Live Oak between
Baldwin Avenue and Bradford. Avenue was denied. Reason - surrounding
lots all have larger frontages than these lots would have. Motion made
by Mr. Anderson, seconded by Mr. Sorenson and carried.
Application of C. D. Cushman to s~lit a lot at 630 W. Lemon
Avenue, Arcadia. into two lots, one 105 feet frontage. the other 701 feet
frontage, was considered. Investigation was made by Mr. Anderson" Weick-
ert and So~enson. Mr. Cushman explained to the Commission his reasons
for these frontages were that he wanted the water line on his :a rger lot
and more space between p~operty line and existing house. Motio~was
made by Mr. Robertson that application be granted and seconded by,: Mr.
Weickert. Carried with the exception of Mr. Knutson, who voted INo."
and Mr. Anderson who did not vote.
Final map of Tract No. 16947, located at the north end of Green-
field Avenue was oonsidered. The following ,changes were recommended:

1. The removal of the existing cul-de-sac at the present north end of
Greenfield Avenue and the reconstruction of all the improvements i~
that portion of the street. 2. That the cul-de-sac at the north end
of the proposed new street be extended to within two feet of the north
line of the tract, and that the "Future Street'" clause apply to the two
foot strip.
Tentative map of Tract No. 15709, partly in Sierra Madre and
partly in Arcadia, was discussed. Mr. Hopen and Mr. Cornynexplained
to the Commission the proposed new boundary line between Arcadia and
Sierra Madre running a~ong the east side of Tract No. 15709, as shown
on the map,. This new boundary line meets with the approval of the City
of Sierra Madre. Motion that the map"be approved by the Planning Com-
missioIll was _de by Mr. Knutson, and seconded by Mr.Weickert and carried.
Mr. Robertson then made a motion that the City Council be notified and
if same meets with their approval to start proceedings to change said
boundary lines. MotioIll seconded by Mr.Berky and carried.
Applioation of A. S. Lauchlan for division of his lot at 1737
So. Tenth Avenue, Arcadia, was referred to Mr. Sorenson and Knutson for
investigation.
Application of Mrs. Elizabeth R. McDonald for lot split at Fair-
view and La Cadena Avenue was referred to Mr. Sorenson and Berky for
investigation.
Application of R. C. Ellis for change or zone at Colorado and
I,Lorena was set for public hearing on Au81st 3 and 17, 1950.

Motion by Mr. Berky, seconded by Mr. Anderson and carried that
the meeting adjourn.
