The aity Planning Commission met in regular meeting with Chairman
Anderson presiding.
PRESENT: Mr. Anderson, Berky, Knutson, Vleickert, Klomp, Newell,
Ross and Talley.
ABSEN'i': Mr. Robertson, Smith and Sorenson.
The minutes of the meeting of July 6th were ordered approved as
written and mailed.
The application of A. S. Lauchlan, 1737 So. Tenth Avenue, for
permission to divide his lot and make two lots with acc~ss from
Doolittle Avenue, was considered. Mr. Knutson reported that such
a development would cause the lots to the north to be land-locked.
Mr. Lauchlan stated that he could not afford the expense of the street
extension. Motion by Mr. Knutson, seconded by Mr. Vleickert and carried
that the application be recon~ended for deniai, unless a dedicated
street be continued to' the north line of the lot.
I The application of Eli~abeth R. McDonald to divide a lot located
at the southeast corner of LaCadena Avenue and Fairview Avenue, was
considered. Mr. Berky reported that a house now exists on the south
Gnd of the lot; also that the north end facin~Fairview Avenue is
now developed and landscaped; leaving a vacant piece in the center,
facing LaCadena Avenue. In his opinion, the development of this
parcel would improve the neighborhood. Motion by Mr. Berky, seconded
by Mr. Weickert and carried that the application be granted.
The application of Mrs. Nora B. Olson to divide a lot at 723
E. Camino Real was referred to Mr. Sorenson and Mr. Berky to investigate.
The following applications for divisions of lots were referred to
Mt. Weickert, Sorenson and Anderson to investigate:
Robert Payton, 84 Palm Drive,
Arthur H. and Lena J. Bothe, 1029 Sunset Boulevard,
Arthur C. Baker, 530 W. Palm Drive.
E. C. Amen, 110 Palm Drive,
H. H. Walker, 1531 So. Fourth Avenue,
The Secretary informed the Commission of' the granting of the
application of Walter E. Stary, 185 W. Longden Avenue, f'OI' a division
of his lot.
The application of Dr. Paul B. Caler for a change of' s~tback at
753 W. Duarte Road \Vas referred to Mr. Sorenson and Anderson to lnvestigate.
Resolution Ho. 30, recommending the denial of a ~one variance
affecting certain property located at 530 N. First Avenue was introduced
and r~ad. Motion by Mr. Weickert that Resolution No. 30 be adopted.
Said motion was seconded by Mr. Berky and carried by the following vote:
AYES: Mr. Anderson, Berley, Knutson and \'Jeickert.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: Mr. Robertson, Smith and Sorensdn.

Final map of Tract No. 16388, located north of Colorado Boulevard
and southwest of tele Santa Fe Railway was considered. Motion b;y Mr.
Knutson, seconded by Mr. Vleickert and carried that final approval be
recommended, subject to checking of the map for conformance with the
approval of the tentative map.
Pinal map of Tract No. 16920, located in the Highlands, was
considered. . Motion by Mr. Weickert, seconded by L~. Knutson and carried
that final approval be recommended.
Final map of Tract No. 13184, located at the southwest corner of
Baldwin Avenue and Orange Grove Avenue, was considered. Motion by Mr.
Knutson, seconded by Mr. Berky and carried that final appr"Oval be
recommended.
Final map of Tt'act No. 16947, located at the north end of Greenfield
Avenue, was considered. Motion by 1\!r. \\Ieickert, seconded by Mr. Anderson
and carried that final approval be recommended.
Communication from the Los Angeles County Flood Control District
requested approval of their plan to acquire right of way for a power
line from the north end of Santa Anita Avenue to the Santa Anita Dam.
Motion by YI!'. \'Jeickert, seconded by PJr. Knutson and carried that
approval be recommended.
The Secretary infcrmed the Commission that the applio~tion of R. C.
Ellis for a change of zone on property on the east side of Lorena S.treet
had been set for hearing on August 3rd and 17th.
Alao that the Application of Dorothy M. LoGiudice for a zone
variance at 530 V. Las Tunas Drive had been set for public hearing
on August 3rd.
Mr. Robbins discussed the matter of Tra.ct No. 16872-, located on
First Avenue south of Camino Real, and the proposed trading of property
with the Church of the Transfiguration. A petition of surrounding
property owners consenting to such trade was filed. He was informed
to file a formal petition for zone variance.
WI!'. Charles If. Eliot, planning consultant, and his assistant,
Mr. F. R. Iwasko, discussed with the Commission the possibility of
serving this Commission as consultants.
