The City Planning Commission met in regular meeting with Chairman
Anderson ~esid~ng.
PRESENT: Mr. Anderson, Knopp, Rober~son, Smith, Sorenson, Klomp,
Mansur, Newell. Ross and Talley.
ABSENT: Mr. Berley and Weickert.
The minutes of the meeting of August 28. 1951. were ordered
approved a s written and mailed.,
The application of Daniel J. Slattery for a zone variance to
allow the establishment and operation of an automobile wash rack OD
the est side of Santa Anita Avenue, north of Huntington Drive, on
which a public hearing was held at the last meeting, was discussed.
It was the opinion of the Commission that a wash rack would not be the
best use of the property. Motion by Mr. Smith that the City Attorney
be instructed to draw a resolution recommending the denial of the
application. Said motion was seconded by Mr. Sorenson and carried by
the following vote:

Mr. Anderson, Knopp, Smith and Sorenson.

Mr. Berley and Weickert.
Mr. Robertson.
Mr. Robertson did not vote on the above question because he was
absent from the public hearing held on the matter.
At the request of Mr. Smith, the application of Mrs. Anna R.
Tyler to divide property located at 1125 Fairview Avenue' was postponed
until the next meeting.
'Motion by Mr. Robertsoh, seconded by Mr. Sorenson and carried that
the application of Roger S. and Helen A. Miller to divide property at
1104 La Cadena Avenue be approved as follows: The North 75 feet, and
the South 75 feet of the North 150 feet of lot 49. Tract No. 3430.
Application of Albert E. and Blanche B. Birren ~o divide the
East 85 feet of the West 188 feet of lot 26. Santa Anita Colony,
located on West Camino Real, was discussed. The plan showed four ~o-
posed lots, located on a 20 foot private road. Mr. Smith stated that
this was ~he kind of development the Commission has been trying to
discourage, because of the problems affecting traffic, fire and police
protection, utilities, etc. Mr. Robertson stated that the land had
better possibilities, and suggested that the entire area cooperate in
forming a subdivision. Motion by Mr. Smith, seconded by Mr. Robertson
'and carried that the application be denied.
Communication from Harry Nesbitt requested the Commission to
consider and recommend to the City Council the proper zoning and any
restrictions applying to the raising of chinchillas. At the suggestion
of Mr. Robertson, the matter was held for study, and also referred to
Mr. Mansur for a report and recommendation.
Communication from T. H. Lambert asked an expression from the
Commission regarding the annexa~ion of approximately 10 acres of land
on the east side of Peck Road, near Rio Hondo Parkway. The matter was
referred to Mr. Sorenson, IU10pp, Anderson and Mansur to investigate
and report back to the Commission.

Mr. Mansur submi~ted a written report on the matter of a lighted
sign located at 83 West Palm Drive, in Zone H-l. Motion by Mr. Knopp,
seconded by Mr. Smith and carried, that, because this sign was
apparently erected without a permit and inspection, that this Commission
recommend that the proper authority be instructed ~o take ~he necessary
steps to see that the sign is removed.
Mr. Smith reported that t;he subdivision commit;tee will submit
their recommendation on the unnumbered tract west of Sixth Avenue and
south of Longden at t;he next regular meeting.
Final map of Tract No. 13439, located west of Mayflower Avenue
near St;andish Street, was submitted for consideration. Motion by
Mr. Smith. seconded by Mr. Sorenson and carried that final approval
be recommended.

Tentative map of Tract No. 17366, located east of Santa Anita
Avenue near Orange Grove Avenue. was submitted for consideration.
Said map was referred to the subdivision committee for investigation
and report.
Communication from Arcadia-Monrovia Realty requested that necessary
steps be taken to abandon the easement covering a portion of Tract
No. 17329, located at Colorado Blvd. and Santa Anita Avenue. Motion
by Mr. Robertson, seconded by Mr. Smith and carried that this Commission
recommend that proceedings be started to abandon the above easement,
final action to be taken with the recording of the final map of the
tract.
It was agreed to hold a special meeting on Monday, September 17th,
at 7:30 P.M., to study and discuss the proposed ordinance regulating
signs, if Mr. Mansur would be available at that time. The Secretary
was instructed to contact Mr. Mansur and notify the Commission.
Motion by Mr. RObertson. seconded by Mr. Smith and carried that
the meeting adjourn.
