Narrative:
E105 was the first arriving unit at the dispatched location. Upon arrival, E105 observed hazy white smoke emanating from
the residence with residents outside the home on the front lawn. E105 made contact with the reporting party (one of the
residents) who communicated that the oven was the source of the fire and that he saw flames coming from the oven. E105
crew stretched an attack line to the garage access and also placed a dry chemical extinguisher at the front door. Upon
further investigation, E105 found cookware (pans) inside the oven with the plastic handles on fire. E105 removed the
cookware and placed outside. There was no extension of fire outside the oven.
The home owner's son and mother were the two residents at home when the incident occurred. The son stated he was in
one of the bedrooms and heard the smoke alarm which caused him to get out of the house. The home owner's mother was
outside the home prior to the fire in the oven. Both the home owner and his son stated they had not turned the oven on
and that they think it turned on without anyone doing so.
