HomeMy WebLinkAboutAM Minutes: 01/05/2022Alk CALL TO ORDER — Chair Jeanne Roy called the meeting to order at 5:02 p.m. in the Museum Education Center and through teleconference. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE — Chair Jeanne Roy ROLL CALL: Chair Jeanne Roy; Commissioners Dale Carter, Angela Yang, Billie Tone, and Ginny Blitz; Director of Library & Museum Services Darlene Bradley; Library Services Manager Pat Smith; Curator Stevy Acevedo; Museum Education Coordinator Brittani Alberto -Shaikh. REPORTS FROM MUSEUM COMMISSION MEMBERS / LIAISONS Commissioner Tone reported that she visited the Shasta Historical Society, which focuses on historic documents and does not feature any artifacts. They recently started a book club. Commissioner Blitz commented that January Friends of the Arcadia Museum board meeting was cancelled. The Board will not meet again until February. REPORT FROM THE DIRECTOR Director Bradley wished the Commission a Happy New Year. Currently there are seven people out at the Library due to exposure to people with Covid. Other than that, the Library and Museum are operating as business as usual. There will be no in -person programming at the Library or the Museum for the next two weeks. REPORT FROM THE CURATOR Curator Acevedo reported that she and several interns were able to install a smaller version of the Museum's 20' Anniversary Exhibit at the Arcadia Public Library and also install a display at the Arcadia Community Center in celebration of Veteran's Day. The Anthony W. Wilkinson Transcription project also continues virtually with many collaborators. The Museum also received several donations, including items from Arcadia chicken farms. Curator Acevedo has applied to the Getty Marrow Multicultural Undergraduate Internship, as well as the California Revealed Description Assistance Grant from the California State Library. Ms. Acevedo informed the Commission that the Friends of the Arcadia Museum (FAM) conducted their Board meeting in December and participated in Snow Fest which was well attended by the public. The Museum provided a DIY snow globe craft for 115 people and over 225 people visited the Museum that day. Museum staff also attended the Arcadia Unified School District PTA meeting and Ms. Acevedo attended the Arcadia Coordinating Council luncheon in December. REPORT FROM THE MUSEUM EDUCATION CORDINATOR Education Coordinator Alberto -Shaikh reported that she finished the Virtual Baldwin series with the Arcadia Senior Services department. All videos were uploaded to YouTube. The Museum has continued to distribute free educational kits to the community. In 2021 the Gilb Museum distributed over 2,296 kits. Ms. Alberto -Shaikh has also conducted several in -person educational programs. In 2021 she conducted 38 school programs, 21 virtual, and 17 in -person. She has also been active in conducting Girl Scout programs and already has several requests for Scout programming in 2022. Ms. Alberto -Shaikh continues to manage the Museum's volunteer program. The Museum currently has 45 volunteers, including both teens and adults; and two interns, Eva Baudler and Daniela Bedolla. In November and December, the Museum volunteers completed 639 hours, and in 2021, overall, completed 2,901 hours. CONSENT CALENDAR a. Approve the Regular Meetinq Minutes of November 3, 2021 Recommended action: Approve Commission Member Carter moved to approve Consent Calendar Item "a", which was seconded by Commission Member Blitz, and carried on a voice vote.
