Please see the attached alternate solution recommended by AMPAM for the water heater vents.Per plan the water heater specs sheets show(12)4" pipes but to not exceed the total allowed 90 elbows per manufactures requirements AMPAM recommends(12)6"pipes. Six of the 12 pipes would go in the existing opening and(6)7"cores will need to be made for the make up air vents 2ft below the existing opening. Please advise if the alternate solution is acceptable. Structural:Please confirm(6)additional 7"holes can be cored 2.-0"below the original opening.See attached for reference. Also please note the separation between each 6"pipe will be infilled at the original opening. Attachments: Le Meridien Vent WH Vent R2 with Core drills 3.9.21.odf Official Response:Gus Awayjan(Architects Orange)responded on Thursday,March 18th,2021 at 11:23AM PDT AO takes no exceptions to the proposed venting of the water heaters provided that those recommendations are followed: 1.Follow the provided Structural detail for the CMU retrofit at the CMU coring. 2.Paint the exposed pipes outlets with a high temperature rated paint.Color to match the color of the exterior surrounding wall finish. Attachments: Official Response:Jennie Stahler(Architects Orange)responded on Thursday,March 18th,2021 at 10:43AM PDT Due to construction sequencing,It appears the contractor must exceed the number elbows allowed for 4"diameter combustion venting for the AO Smith Water Heaters.PCE takes no exception to the contractor using 6"Venting.Contractor must coordinate new hole sizes thru the exterior wall with Structural and the Architect.
