RESOLUTION NO. 59
A RESOLUTION OF TEE CITY PLANNING COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, RECOMMEND-
ING CANCELLATION OF VARIANCE HERETOFORE GRANTED.
WHEREAS, upon application duly made and after public
hearings regularly held after notice given as required by law,
this Commission by its motion adopted on February 28, 1945. recom-
mended to the City Counoil that a variance be granted affecting
the following described property in the City of Arcadia, to wit:
That portion of Lot 6 of Tract No. 949, in the City of
Arcadia. County of Los Angeles. State of California.
as shown on map recorded in Book 17. Page l3 of Maps,
1n the office of the Recorder of said County, described
as follows: Beginning at a point in the westerly line
of said Lot 6. said point being the southwest corner of
that parcel of land conveyed to Times-Mirror Company and
described in deed recorded in Book l8465, Page 372 of
Official Records of said County; thence following the
south boundary line of said parcel of land so described
as follows: N 890 01' 55" E. 317.87 feet; S 00 58' 05"
E, 30 feet; N 890 01' 55" E. 225 feet to the southwest
corner of said parcel of land; thence S 00 58' 0511 E
along the west line of Tract No. 12900, as shown on map
recorded in Book 262, Pages 47 and 48 of Maps. Records of
said County, 219.73 feet; thence N 890 01' 55" E along
the southerly line of said Traot No. 12900, 30 feet;
thence S 00 58' 05" E along the southerly prolongation
of the center line of Placiente Road (60 feet in width)
as the same is shown on said map of Tract No. 12900,
2l0-27 feet; thence S 890 01' 55" W. 572.87 feet to the
west line of Lot 6 of said Tract No. 949; thence N 00
58' 05" W, along the west line or said Lot 6, 460 feet
to the point of beginning:
EXCEPTING therefrom any portion thereof within that
parce.l of land conveyed to City of Arcadia described
in deed recorded in Book 18120. Page 208 of Official
Records of said CountYJ
RESERVING therefrom an easement ror Road and Utility
purposes over the southerly 30 feet thereof, and the
easterly 30 feet of that portion thereof lying south of
the south line of said Tract No. 12900. together with
the right to dedicate same to the public use without fur-
ther consideration. The above described parcel of land
has a caloulated area of 5.298 acres.
to be used and occupied in connection with the restaurant and
bungalow-hotel which were constructed and are now being operated
pursuant to exceptions granted by Ordinance No. 421 of the City of

Arcadia. adopted on the 10th day of October, 1939, and Ordinance
No. 458 of the City of Arcadia, adopted on the 22nd day of April,

1941. for the following purposes:
(a) The constructing, maintaining and establishing of
sixty (60) bungalow hotel living units, more or less, and garages
for use in connection therewith,
(b) A curio shop; beauty and barber shop, for use in
rendering personal service to guests of said bungalow hotel,
(c) A swimming pool, badminton and tennis courts. pur-
suant to which the City Council of the City of Arcadia did on March
20. 1945, pass, approve and adopt its certain Ordinance No. 541
entitled "An Ordinance of the City Council of the City of Arcadia
Making an Exception to Certain Provisions of Ordinanoe No. 439
of Said City of Arcadia, Adopted JUne 28, 1940." wherein and
whereby the variance recommended by the Commission was ~anted;
and
WHEREAS, Rancho Santa Anita, Inc., the owner of the
above-described property, has requested that the aforesaid varianoe
be cancelled.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Planning Commission of the City
of Arcadia, california, does hereby find, determine and resolve
as follows:
SECTION 1. That the property affected by aforesaid

variance is in the process of subdivision; that when the property
is SUbdivided. the variance will not only not be of use. but will
become contrary to the spirit and intent of the Zoning Ordinance
and be detrimental to the area; that good cause exists for the
cancellation of said variance, and the cancellation thereof will
not be detrimental to the pUblic Welfare nor injurious to the adjoin-
ing property.
SECTION 2. That this Commission does hereby reoommend
to the City Council of the City of Arcadia that the above-described
varianoe hereinbefore granted be cancelled and that said Ordinanoe
No. 541 be repealed.
RESOLVED FURT~R, that the Secretary shall oertify to the
adoption of this Resolution, and shall forward a copy of the same to

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was adopted
by the City Planning Commission at a regular meeting held on the
22nd day of January. 1952, by the following vote:
AYES: Mr. Anderson, Berky, Knopp, Pratt and ~orenson
NOES: None
ABSENT: Mr. Balser and Weickert
