RESOLUTION NO. 152
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY PLANNING COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA. CALIFORNIA. RECOMMEIlD-
ING THE EXTENSION OF AN EXISTING VARIANCE TO
PEIDJIT ADDITIONAL PROPERTY TO BE USED FOR
COMJ.nrnCIAL PURPOSES ON SPECIFIED CONDITIONS
WHEREAS,. there was filed with this Commission the appli-
cation of Market Basket for the extension of an existing variance
to permit the expansion of commercial uses on the West 15 feet of
the south 90 feet, 4 inches, of Lot 4. Block 72, Santa Anita
Tract, as shown on map reoorded in Book 15. pages 89 and 90,
records of Los Angela sCounty;, and
WHEREAS, after due notice as required by law. a public
hearing was held by and before this Commission on April 13, 1954.
. at which time all interested persons were given a full opportunity
to be heard and to present evidence;
NOW, THEREFORE. the City Planning Commission of the City
of Arcadia. CEil. ifornia, does hereby find. resolve an d recommend as
follows:

SECTION 1. That there were no protests. oral or written.
to the granting of the requested variance.
SECTION 2. That on July 15. 1947. Ordinance No. 657
enti tled n AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA.
CALIFORNIA, .MAKING A PERMANENT EXCEPI'ION TO CERTAIN PROVISIONS OF
ORDINANCE NO. 439 OF SAID CITY, ADOPl'ED JUNE 28, 194.on was adopted
by the City Council pursuant to the recommendation of the City
Planning Commission theretofore made. That the facts and circum-
stances then existing and warranting the granting of the variance
therein provided not only continue but have been increased by tho
adoption of Ordinance No. 760 and the parking overlay thereby im-
:\ posed upon adjacent Lot 4. That the findings and determinations

heretofore made with reference to the subject property are hereby
reaffirmed.
That the purpose of the requeoted

permit an addition to the existing building for the installation
~ of refrigeration equipment necessitated by the change in merchan-
dising technique applicable to the business conducted on the Dub-
ject property. That such extension in necessary for the prezervation
of substantial property rights of the applicant.
SECTION 3. That for the foreeoing reasons this Commission
recommends that the variance heretofore granted to applicant be
extended to permit the construction on Lot 4 ,~f a fifteen-foot ex-
tension to the building presently constructed on Lots 1 and 2. That
the extension of the variance hereby granted shalL continue only
so long as the remainder of Lot 4, and all of Lots
5 and 6 are
improved and maintained as public parking lots. whethor undel' appli-
cant's ownership or not; that when any portion of the parlring hereby

required shall no longer be thus maintained, the variance extension
hereby granted shall cease, all structures erected hereunder be
removed and the property reverted to the status provided f~ in
the variance heretofore granted under said Ordinance No. 657.
SECTION 4. The Secretary shall certify to the adoption
of this Resolution and shall cause a copy of the same to be for-
warded to the City Council of the City of Arcadia.

adopted at a regular meeting of t he City Planning Commission held
on May 11. 1954. by the ~ollo,nng vote:
