SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 13, 2022, at 6:00 p.m.
ARCADIA BEAUTIFUL COMMISSION SPECIAL MEETING
CALL TO ORDER — Chairperson Brink called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. in the Council
Chambers Conference Room.
ROLL CALL OF COMMISSIONERS
PRESENT: Burton Brink, Gary Brewer, Sheryl Hunter, Ethel Laczko, Barbara Lyle,
Robert Miller, Lee Shimmin
ABSENT: None
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FROM STAFF REGARDING AGENDA ITEMS
Staff Liaison Bruno announced that she would be assuming Staff Liaison Brutus' duties
temporarily. Staff Liaison Bruno noted that there was no supplemental information to share.
PUBLIC COMMENTS — None
REPORT FROM ARCADIA BEAUTIFUL COMMISSIONER —
Commissioner Laczko shared that she met with the Arcadia Superintendent of Schools and that
they expressed enthusiasm in participating in the program next year. Commissioner Laczko also
commented on the importance of the City (and by proxy its board and commissions) maintaining
good relationships with the school district.
2. CONSENT CALENDAR
All matters listed under the Consent Calendar are considered to be routine and can be acted on
by one roll call vote. There will be no separate discussion of these items unless members of the
commission, staff, or the public request that a specific item be removed from the Consent
Calendar for separate discussion and action.
3. REGULAR ITEMS
a. Conduct Final Judging for the 2022 Holiday Decoration Awards.
Staff Liaison Bruno noted that each commissioner was provided the list of addresses that were
submitted, in the order the group would be visiting each location. She also mentioned that 42
submissions were received in total, but two of the addresses were outside of City limits and would
not be included in the judging as a result. Overall, she said there were 38 residential property
submissions and 2 business/commercial property submissions
Chairperson Brink mentioned that Edson Chavez from Public Works would be leading the tour
this evening and that the group should prepare to reconvene at the same time and place, on
December 22, 2022, to make the award/presentation to the 12 winning recipients.
It was moved by Commission Brewer, seconded by Commissioner Hunter, and carried on a roll
call vote to conduct the Final Judging for the 2022 Holiday Decoration Awards.
