HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 11d - $20,000 Donation from Arcadia Chinese Association and Arcadia Fire Department Foundation DATE: February 20, 2024 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Chen Suen, Fire Chief SUBJECT: DONATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $20,000 FROM THE ARCADIA CHINESE ASSOCIATION AND ARCADIA FIRE DEPARTMENT FOUNDATION TO FUND ONGOING ARCADIA FIRE DEPARTMENT TRAINING PROJECTS CEQA: Not a Project Recommendation: Accept SUMMARY The Arcadia Chinese Association and the Arcadia Fire Department Foundation have offered a gift of $20,000 to fund ongoing Arcadia Fire Department training projects. It is recommended that the City Council accept the donation. DISCUSSION The Arcadia Chinese Association (the “ACA”), as part of their 2024 theme of “safety, stability, and sustainability,” selected the Arcadia Fire Department Foundation as the beneficiary of their 2024 fundraising gala that was held on January 20, 2024. Established in 2023, the Arcadia Fire Department Foundation (the “Foundation”) is an independent, community-based non-profit organization that supports the Arcadia Fire Department through fundraising and by promoting partnership between the community and the Fire Department. The Foundation supports the Fire Department’s programs, projects, and activities not funded through the City’s General Fund budget. Specifically, the funds donated by the ACA and the Foundation will help fund training projects such as the design and development of a new training center within the City. All donations to the City over $10,000 are subject to the approval of the City Council pursuant to the Arcadia City Charter, Section 1218 and City Council Resolution No. 7514. Donation of $20,000 by the Arcadia Chinese Association and Arcadia Fire Department Foundation February 20, 2024 Page 2 of 2 ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS The proposed action of receiving donated funds does not constitute a project under the California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”), and it can be seen with certainty that it will have no impact on the environment. Thus, this matter is exempt under CEQA. FISCAL IMPACT The Department’s training program will be enhanced by this gift of $20,000 as well as its mission of providing ongoing training for Arcadia’s dedicated and professional staff. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council determine that this action does not constitute a project under the California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”); and accept a donation in the amount of $20,000 from the Arcadia Chinese Association and Arcadia Fire Department Foundation to fund ongoing Arcadia Fire Department training projects.
