Health Seminar Discussion On Wednesday, December 20, 2023, the Health Committee met for their regularly scheduled meeting, the last regular meeting was on June 27, 2023, and September's meeting was canceled. The following guests attended: Desiree Molina, Chia-Chieh Hu, Cliff Daniels, Diane Daniels, Kenneth Wogensen, Dino Clarizio, David Ratto, Brian Green, Michael Cao, Eileen Wang, Tom Devlin, and Sara Somogyi. Mayor Pro Tern Cao and Council Member Wang discussed the first lecture of the Health Committee scheduled to be held on January 24, 2024. Mayor Pro Tern Cao reported he has confirmed a speaker, Dr. Patrick Hsieh, Director of Neurosurgery Spine Program at USC Keck School of Medicine. Dr. Hsieh will speak on concussions and brain injuries at the first seminar scheduled at 6pm, at the Arcadia Public Library. Mayor Pro Tern Cao and Council Member Wang discussed where future health seminars should be held. Both agreed the Museum Education Center (MEC), the Arcadia Public Library, or the Arcadia Community Center would be great locations with plenty of parking spaces. Recreation and Community Services Director (RCSD) Sara Somogyi responded she would have to check the availability of the MEC and talk to Library and Museum Services Director, Darlene Bradley, on the availability of the Arcadia Library's auditorium. RCSD Somogyi said the Arcadia Community Center may not be an option as the Department of Recreation and Community Services uses the Community Center for afternoon and night classes and are scheduled throughout the week. Mayor Pro Tern Cao and Council Member Wang discussed how to promote and advertise for the Health Committee seminars. Some options discussed were social media, Arcadia's Hot Sheet, the Monthly Connection Newsletter, or placing inserts in the City's monthly water bills. RCSD Somogyi responded there is no budget allocated for the Health Committee, therefore, it will be a challenge if they want to include inserts, or any other places where a fee is required. RCSD Somogyi reminded the Committee to plan ahead in order to promote or advertise as the information has to be submitted up to one month in advance for the Connection Newsletter and Arcadia's Hot Sheet. Mayor Pro Tern Cao, Council Member Wang, and RCSD Somogyi discussed the layout of future flyers. It was agreed to keep the layout the same and only change the title of the seminar and add the speaker's information with the speakers photo. Mayor Pro Tem Cao gave a tentative overview of what has to be planned for the next three months of seminars. January will be a discussion on concussions and brain injuries which has been confirmed. February will be a discussion on heart disease, and March will be on obesity. Lastly, Mayor Pro Tem Cao and Council Member Wang said they would like to have the Health Fair in July or August 2024, at the Arcadia Community Center. RCSD Somogyi said she would look into available dates at the Community Center and report back at the next meeting. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 6:05pm to March 20, 2024, at 5:OOpm, at the Recreation Conference Room, 375 Campus Drive, Arcadia. lw <c; k wL (ao Mayor Pro Tem Michael Cao City Council Member Eileen Wang
