PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE — Commissioner Ayala ROLL CALL OF COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Ayala, Cheung, Chu, Mediana, Vanni SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FROM STAFF REGARDING AGENDA ITEMS 1. PUBLIC COMMENTS REPORTS FROM RECREATION AND PARKS COMMISSIONERS Commissioner Ayala - No Report Chairperson Cheung — No Report Commissioner Chu reported he has been observing an active community utilizing the City's outdoor facilities even with the colder weather. Commissioner Mediana — No Report Vice -Chairperson Vanni — No Report REPORT FROM CITY COUNCIL MEMBER LIAISON No Report 2. CONSENT CALENDAR a. Approve the Regular Meeting Minutes of December 13, 2023. It was moved by Commissioner Ayala, seconded by Commissioner Mediana, and unanimously carried on roll call vote to approve consent calendar 2a. 3. REGULAR ITEMS a. Report from Public Works Services Department I. Project Updates Deputy Director of Public Works (DDPWS) Carmen Masud reported the Newcastle Park project is waiting for final paperwork from contractors before work begins. DDPWS Masud reported final documents for Wilderness Park debris removal have been submitted to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES). b. Report from Recreation and Community Services Department Monthly Reports Director Recreation and Community Services (DRCS) Sara Somogyi reported a Homeless Symposium will take place on February 29, 2024, at the Community Center. DRCS Somogyi passed out an informational flyer for the program. DRCS Somogyi explained the symposium is designed for internal organizations for regional informational purposes, but the public can register and attend if interested. DRCS Somogyi reported the homeless Point in Time (PIT) count will take place on January 23, 2024. DRCS Somogyi reported on several December senior programs and activities. DRCS Somogyi reported 11 seniors participated in the free blood pressure screening offered by Arcadia USC Hospital. DRCS Somogyi reported the chess club had eight participants. DRCS Somogyi reported Coffee with the Mayor had 36 seniors in attendance. DRCS Somogyi reported the gift shop had 36 visitors during the month. DRCS reported the Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles provided four seniors services. DRCS Somogyi reported Mahjong had 81 participants. DRCS Somogyi reported over 1,200 seniors enjoyed the Senior Meals Program. DRCS Somogyi reported 40 seniors attended the various December seminars. DRCS Somogyi reported Taste the Town had 31 seniors attend. DRCS Somogyi reported five seniors were contacted by telephone through the You've Got a Friend program. DRCS Somogyi reported the Holiday Brunch on December 1, had 120 seniors enjoying the themed luncheon with carolers, food, and a picture with Santa. DRCS Somogyi reported Ugly Sweater Bunco took place on December 8, with 28 in attendance. DRCS Somogyi reported the Senior Volunteer Holiday Brunch took place on December 21, with 75 volunteers being recognized. DRCS Somogyi reported on several recreation programs beginning with Breakfast with Santa on December 2, where 333 participants enjoyed holiday themed games, breakfast, a hot chocolate bar, and a picture with Santa. DRCS Somogyi reported the Snow Festival took place on December 2 with over 1,000 participants playing in the snow, riding the train, doing crafts, writing letters to Santa, and other holiday themed activities. DRCS Somogyi reported the Tree Lighting Ceremony took place at the Arcadia Transit station on December 7, with 275 people in attendance. DRCS Somogyi reported the Youth Winter Camp took place December 26-29 with 213 children in attendance. DRCS Somogyi reported 24 Volunteens provided 181 hours of volunteer services. DRCS Somogyi reported classes had over 1,600 participants attending classes at the Community Center, Dana Gym, Museum Education Center, and virtually. Financial Statements DRCS Somogyi reported the Fiscal Year 2023/24 November percentage for expenditures is approximately 38% with revenue at approximately 40%. DRCS Somogyi reported the Parks and Recreation Facilities Fund will begin to see movement once the Newcastle Park Renovation project begins. DRCS Somogyi reported the City will be implementing a new financial software system in the coming fiscal year.
