Locked containers include; safes, cabinets, individual gun cases, rooms or closets, and vehicles or vehicle trunks. Keys and combinations must be kept under control by the adult responsible for the gun. 5. Disabling the firearm by simply unloading it is not a viable alternative to properly securing it as a crime can be committed with an unloaded firearm. 6. Disassembling the firearm to prevent it from being fired is acceptable, but may not prevent it from being used in a crime if it is still recognizable as a complete firearm. In addition, some children may be able to re- assemble the firearm. 7. Loading and unloading firearms requires the same caution, or perhaps more, at home as it does when you are on the range, or anywhere else. Remember, bullets can easily penetrate walls, floors, roofs, doors, and furniture. 8. During dry firing practice, all live ammunition shall be separated from the firearm and all loading devices. The weapon should always be pointed in a safe direction with a safe backdrop. (Refer to safety rules in Sections C and D of this policy.)
