Classical Kaleidoscope FEATURED HISTORICAL PHOTO PONY EXPRESS MUSEUM CHINESE JOSS HOUSE The Pony Express Museum (1935-1955) at Huntington Drive and Colorado Place was home to an impressive collection of old west relics, curated by William Parker Lyon. Mr. Lyon recognized the important role of Chinese immigrant workers during California’s gold rush days with this display of a Chinese joss house. The joss house represented the hub of Chinese society in towns throughout the California Mother Lode during the mid-1800s and later. The joss house would be the first cultural structure built in the Chinese settlements, serving as a place for worship, classes, social events, and letter-writing services.
