and will be further discussed at the May meeting. Their next meeting will take place on May 2,
2024.

on April 18 and 19. The intern selections and work plan need
to be submitted to the Getty for approval by May 1. Curator Acevedo and Ms. Andersen attended
Getty Supervisor workshops in March and April.

including the mural at the Arcadia Public Library and the Elias Jackson “Lucky” Baldwin statue.
She will then interview people who had a connection to those pieces to include on the website.

more about the history of the city as well as see the Museum’s Red Envelope Exhibit one last
time before it was removed.

Museum is actively recruiting a new Education Coordinator and conducted an internal recruitment.

attending the program each week. The Fall Preschool Program will resume on September 6.
The Museum hosted the second Preservation Workshop on photographs on March 2. Conducted

bring items from their own personal collections if they have any specific questions. The next
workshop will take place on June 1 on digitization.

Community on March 23 to 15 girls. She then conducted
the program Trees on April 20 to a group of 5 girl scouts.
Museum Education Coordinator Substitute Ms. Andersen
provided a tour on April 3 to the 15 Agape Lake Avenue
Church members. Many of the visitors are of Japanese
American descent and have a connection to the Santa Anita Japanese Assembly Center. They
were pleased to see that the Museum highlights that time in history in Arcadia.
The Museum has conducted 32 out of the 43 school programs scheduled for this school year.
This year the Museum will have reached all elementary schools within Arcadia Unified School
District. The Museum has programs scheduled in May at Baldwin Stocker for Then vs. Now and
Tongva Time: Storytelling. The Museum is also preparing for a visit of 130 students from Holly
Avenue on May 22.

Arcadia Public Works. The Museum kicked off the event with a screening of Saging the World on
April 13 followed by a panel discussion with Director Ms. Rose Ramirez where there were 10
attendees. “Respect the Plantcestors” stickers were also purchased from local native artist Ms.
Elena Rios that were given away at the event.
On April 20, the Museum provided a bird feeder kit and decorate a terracotta pot kit for the
community at the Earth Week event at the Arcadia Public Library. Museum Education Coordinator
Sub Ms. Lily Wu attended the event to pass out the kits. In addition, Saging the World was played
in the auditorium during the plant swap.
On April 17, the Arcadia Historical Society conducted a
History Talk in the Museum Education Center for their
members. The Museum collaborated with the event and
was open after hours for visitors to come in and see the
Ross Field Balloon School permanent exhibit, which
includes the recent donation of the panorama photograph
donated by the Arcadia Historical Society. There were
approximately 40 visitors at the event.
The staff is preparing for the next documentary screening of Norman Mineta and his Legacy: An
American Story on Saturday, May 11. There will be two screenings: one at 10:30am which will
include a Q&A with co-producer Ms. Debra Nakatomi and a screening at 2pm.
MARKETING
The Museum continues to promote upcoming events and educational kits across all social media
platforms. Volunteer Ms. Amy Alcan from Pomona College continues to volunteer and focus on
the Museum's social media by creating content that would be scheduled to be posted on
5
Later.com. She is also working on the museum's digital newsletter on MailChimp. Her tasks also
include creating the seasonal calendar booklet for the summer and fall. Ms. Alcan is in the process
of creating a new pamphlet for the scout programs available at the Museum for local troops.
Curator Acevedo also scheduled social media posts for the Museum’s participation in the Blue
Star Museum program on later.com. Blue Star Museums is a partnership between the National
Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families, in collaboration with the Department of Defense
and museums across America, offering free admission to the nation’s active-duty military
personnel and their families, including National Guard and Reserve. The 2024 Blue Star
Museums program begins on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 18, 2024, and ends on Labor
Day, Monday, September 2, 2024.
VOLUNTEERS
The Museum is actively recruiting volunteers throughout the year, especially in preparations for
the summer. There has been 11 teen applications and 3 adult volunteer applications that have
been received during the months of March and April. Substitute Ms. Porras has been conducting
the volunteer interviews and starting the onboarding process with the volunteers.
Staff is also going to be conducting interviews at the end of the month for this years Teen
Volunteer Lead positions. Teen Leads are a great support to staff by leading other volunteers in
tasks for the day as well as helping with the Museum with daily setup and take down of the exhibit
space.
Volunteers are beginning production on kits that will be shared with the
community in the following months. This includes the kits that were
provided during the Earth Day event at the Arcadia Public Library in
April, the Firefighters Pancake Breakfast on May 4, and the Downtown
