CALL TO ORDER — Chair Renfrew called the meeting to order at 4:32 p.m. in the Library's
Conference Room.

REPORTS FROM LIBRARY TRUSTEES / LIAISONS:
Chair Renfrew announced that Trustee Carlton has resigned from the Board of Trustees. Board
members briefly discussed the future of the Library Board. Trustee Connie Liao will make a motion
for the Arcadia Chinese Association (ACA) to make a donation to the Library. If the motion is
approved Trustee Liao would like to present the check at the May Library Board meeting. She
reported that ACA would like to see Library Board members attend ACA events/meetings to show
support for one another. Trustee Liao will report ACA events at future board meetings. Upcoming
ACA events in May, a donation will be made to Arcadia High School to purchase an LED score
board. ACA is discussing with AUSD how much they will be able to contribute. The Arcadia
Chinese Association raised $20,000 for the Arcadia Firefighters Foundation through their GALA.
Additionally, the following motions were made to donate $1500 to the Museum, $1,500 Friends
of the Museum, and $1,000 to the Arcadia Woman's Club. Trustee Carter reported that the
Assistance League has many dolls that they are trying to find good use for. Trustee Carter asked
if the Library could develop a program where dolls can be used. Director Bradley said we would
look into it, but also suggested that the Fire Department could be another option during their toy
drive. Chair Renfrew announced that there is currently a 50% off sale on everything in the
bookstore. The bookstore has extended hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They are now open
until 7:00 p.m. Chair Renfrew reported that the new hours have allowed the bookstore volunteers
to meet new people that would normally not have an opportunity to go into the bookstore.
Bookstore volunteers are introducing themselves to the working patrons. The Friends of the
Library membership meeting took place last Saturday, April 13, with 16 people in attendance. An
overview of what the Library does and offers the community were a few topics that were
highlighted.

Monthly Statistical Report: April 2024: The gate count continues to grow, and staff is kept busy.
In March 29,951 patrons visited the Library. Hold requests and reference questions continue to
increase. A brief discussion regarding the need for tutors for the English Conversation Class
(ECC). Chair Renfrew Congratulated Joanna Liang for being announced as the Senior of the
Year.
Monthly Narrative Report: April 2024: Board members reviewed the monthly narrative. Sta
continue to keep busy. I
Financial Report: April 2024: The City's new financial system, Oracle, will debut in July
2024. Chair Renfrew asked about some of the categories showing money spent for the
year, but year to date shows zero. Director Bradley explained that we recently added a
staff member to receive specialist pay and was not budgeted. Staff that receive specialist
pay are translators for the department and the City.
Staff Update: Interviews for the Principal Librarian position will take place on Monday, April 22
and on Tuesday, April 23 interviews for the Museum Education Coordinator. A new passport clerk,
Johanna Gaona, will start on Tuesday, April 23 and will start her certification training on
Wednesday, April 24. A conditional offer was also made for an additional passport clerk. There
are still six Library Aide vacancies and will recruit for these positions after we finish with the
aforementioned.
tail b Museum of Arcadia Heritage: The Friends of the Museum will meet in May. Director
Bradley will ask board members if they would be able to fundraise for a glass archival display
case, which would help with the $12,500 purchase. The display case is needed to show the regalia
that comes with uniforms that currently cannot be displayed. The Veteran's banners project will
be up starting in October and will be displayed until holiday decorations go up.
Calendar of Activities for Children's Services: May 2024: Bilingual storytime is tonight and will
be led by a volunteer. Registrations for May programs begin on Saturday, May 4. The eBike
Safety program is for all ages and will take place on May 15. This program is led by the California
Highway Patrol. Summer Reading starts on June 10.
Calendar of Activities for It and Teen Services: April 2024: The Mental Health journaling
will be held on Thursday, May 9 in the Auditorium. The English Conversation Class is held on
Monday's from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Requests for 3D printing can be submitted any time of
the week. Chair Renfrew mentioned that the Memory Lab has shown more usage now that we
have a volunteer who is assisting. Machines are available at no cost. Classes will be offered soon,
but currently it is by appointment only. On Saturday, April 20 the'Library will celebrate Earth Day,
which includes Repair Caf6 in the auditorium and other fun activities throughout the Library. De -
stress fest for Teens will be held on May 30. Teens can relax and hug therapy dogs.
The Classical Kaleidoscope concert, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, is next Wednesday,
April 24. A silent auction will also be held in the Auditorium.

Health Journaling, Environmental Week, De -Stress Fest, Classical Kaleidoscope Concert.
Featured Historical Photo: Pony Express Museum Chinese Joss House: The Library Board
enjoyed the historical photo and interesting facts. The joss house represented the hub of Chinese
society in towns throughout.
Announcements: A tour of the Library's 3-D printer followed the meeting.

Recommended action: Approve as amended.
The motion to accept the Minutes of March 21, 2024, as written, was moved by Trustee Carter,
seconded by Trustee Liao, and carried on a unanimous voice vote.
